| i am 52 years old and have had ulcers all my life.i used to think my pain and agony with them was unique to me until i discovered this webite today.reading the messages has been a great support. thanks to all who went to bother ofsharing their experiences. i am a teacher and recently have changed jobs because i could no longer cope. the ulcers do not visit quite so often now .when they do my entire body seems to shut down and i have to go to bed for a day or two.i seem to experience flu like symptoms.at the moment i am weary of new products and theories having tried so many.as last attempt i visited the ulcer shop and i decided to try some of the recommended products.today im at home in bed nursing new visitors. they too will eventually go. |

| Noreen, try Berocca by Roche! Like you I have suffered all my life - I’m 35 years old - and finally I have found some thing that keeps these awful ulcers, aches and pains away! I take soluable Berocca on a daily basis. Berocca can be bought from Chemists and supermarkets and contains reasonably high levels of vitamin B’s etc. The soluable one is by far the best. Do try this it has been the only thing to have helped me and like you I’ve spent years battling with them too. Thanks to Berocca I have had six months of ulcer-free bliss - the only six months in my life without them!!!! I don’t need to tell you how good that feels. As a result I have far more energy and happiness. Good luck and let me know if you have the same success. |

i too get bad flu like symptoms. i had them last month and now a month later.
doctors arent very helpful. i am so hurting all over my body it is horrible and i want to cry. feel like i have a flu . and now my throat is also sore. had these ulcers start up about 1.5 weeks ago, flu symptomsgetting gradually worse.until today where i feel it is so painful to move and do anything. throat sore like heck now, for a few days.
had mouth ulcers for years but the reactions my body has are getting worse.
the flu like symptoms are so bad now.
i am feeling quite desperate about it. |

| I'm so sorry to hear how awful you feel when you have an ulcer attack. I tend to feel really weary, the constant pain seems to drag me down, and all I want to do is curl up and stay in bed. Don't know if its an actual symptom, or whether its just the constant pain that causes it. I've been taking 1000mg of L Lysine every day , and using a SLS-free toothpaste since getting the tips on this site, and they definitely do help....well they help me, anyway. We all know that nothing helps everybody ! |

It hurts!, I suggest you get a referral to a maxillo-facial surgeon (the specialty who deal with mouth ulcers) from your GP. Privately, you could arrange to see Crispian Scully, who has expertise in ulcers though appointments with him are not cheap. http://www.homepages.ucl.ac.uk/~sfhvcms/ If you call (0)20 7915 1000 and ask to make an appointment with him. On the NHS you should be able to see a maxillo-facial surgeon anyway, though their understanding of mouth ulcers is variable though better than most GPs.
If you are having ongoing flu like symptoms and ulcers over a long period of time, you need it sorting out. |

i am seeing a (not my as i dont have one i can see easily all the time) GP this friday.
I feel very tired and achey right now. yes it hurts in my body it aches and i feel sore all over. last time a doctor said it sjust the side affects from my body fighting the infection makes it like flu like aches and pains.
I hope i get some help. that doc also told me they would need to test for HIV and she seemed to give impression that thats all they can do - rule HIV out. I havent wanted to go back but I realised that omg i had this last month also, the frequency and severity of the ulcer attacks are getting worse and worse. Not so much the ulcers but the aches and pains.
I dont have much faith in doctors,i really think i need to try a herbalist or naturapath also |

i went and saw the doctor. they did not really take me seriously about how much my body hurts and aches with the ulcers. i got some steriod pills to take but its impossible to use if the ulcers are on my tongue. she did say hiv is mostly likely not the cause of the ulcers and didnt say it needed ruling out like the last doctor.
I am so sick of doctors atm, they hardly help at all! |

Hi
I too used to suffer from constant mouth ulcers and throat ulcers even as a child. What I have linked mine to is an intolerance to citric fruits orange lemon etc even if taken in squash. I dont suffer now unless I forget and take a glass of squash and hey presto they appear. |

If you have flu-like symptoms, I would say it is definitely something far more serious than just mouth ulcers. I am currently being tested for vitamin deficiency, autoimmune disorders and goodness knows what else. I know that autoimmune disorders can cause flu-like symptoms. They can also cause bunches of canker sores, skin rashes....look them up! My advice is to keep going to the doctor until you get bloodwork done and someone who will consider the possibility that they're more than just mouth ulcers.
