Bought some Marmite here in the US because Iíd never tried it and was curious. Itís tasty but I like just about anything thatís salty and similar to soy sauce. Well, fairly soon after my first tastings...mouth ulcers on tongue- felt like my whole tongue was affected! I started to think about the new things in my diet and narrowed it down to Marmite or wasabi almonds. I decided to google ďMarmite and tongue ulcersĒ and this was the first thing that popped up! Mystery solved! Thanks guys! Marmite going back to the store!
Oh, and rinse your mouth with a tall glass of very salty water- spit and repeat. Pain will subside and ulcers will be on their way out in no time! Good luck!

For some reason, not having any inkling of this potential, and having been suffering from an ulcer on my tongue for several days I had a marmite sandwich in the middle of the night. My ulcer is hardly noticeable now...which is why I looked up the possibility on google!

I've tried swishing camomile tea around my mouth- twice over the duration of 1 hour... live yoghurt- twice... to no avail... I was hungry and wondering how to get rid of my 3 day old ulcer (on the inside of my bottom lip)... following the above advice I set about dipping mini cheddars into a jar of Tesco's Yeast Extract and applying it to the ulcer for as long as possible - 10 seconds. It hurt almost as much as Bonjella, and I felt a rush and light headed...and whilst applying said mini cheddar I read the post on this site where someone blames Marmite as the cause of their ulcer...I'll keep you posted.

I also only get mouth ulcers from Marmite.
I eat loads of other salty stuff no problem, but a piece of toast with Marmite on, and the next day I am guarrenteed to have a mouth ulcer.
Only cure I have found that works is Adcortl in Orabase.
I find it funny, as lots of people say use Marmite to CURE mouth ulcers; so am I supposed to keep eating Marmite to cure the ulcer it just gave me? ^^

Marmite is the English version of the Australian spread Vegemite, which weirdly enough has been suggested on this site as a pain-reliever for mouth ulcers! The two products are quite similar (though many people have strong opinions regarding their favourite!) so it seems strange that they can have such a different effect on different people.

Well that is just so interesting!!!. I havenít had a mouth ulcer for many many months and donít usually suffer from them. I have one now which is the mother of all ulcers and have done a search to see if I can find a treatment. I have just come accross your message about the marmite and cant believe it. About a week ago, I took a real desire for some marmite on toast which I havent eaten for maybe six months. It was of course delicious but I wonder could it be the cause of my ulcer which appeared about four days ago.
Ive used bonjela (useless for me) and then neat tea tree oil (a little more relief but hasnít done the trick) Anyway, thanks for letting us know about the marmite!!!

Hi, Iíve suffered from mouth ulcers as long as I can remember and never managed to get to the bottom of why I get them. Recently I endured around 3 months of constant ulcers - as soon as I got rid of one, it seemed like 2 more would take its place. Anyhow, iím a creature of habit and love a bit of Marmite on toast for breakfast. Only when I ran out of it a month ago, did I find they completely cleared up. As a test I had some 2 weeks ago, and waddaya know - the very next day, up pops another one. Theyíve cleared up again now and Iím crossing everything in the hope iím right. Iím not sure what it would be in the Marmite that would cause it - itís got vitamin B and other stuff in it that is supposed to be good for you, maybe salt or yeast....
Anyway, hope this helps someone else out there.
