I suffer from bouts of mouth ulcers. Anywhere from 1 or 2 to 15/16 in which case I have been hospitalised when I couldn't swallow. So I went to an acupuncturist this week, where she said acupuncture would do little to prevent or cure ulcers but assured me that I would never get a mouth ulcer again if I put half a cup of bread soda in a little water and drink it off b4 bed. This will cause you to belch and in turn release any toxins from your stomach, that might cause mouth ulcers. She also said to back this up by swishing olive or coconut oil in the mouth once or twice daily. So, time will tell I guess. I should know in a couple of weeks. I'll post back to let you all know.

Bicarb is brilliant. I watched a youtube thing on "The Hidden Cures of Cancer. So that night I had one teaspoon in a glass of water before I went to bed. I thought, it couldn't hurt if it helps cure cancer. I am getting on so have a few aches and pains when sitting in the car for any length of time and getting out of bed in the mornings etc. Well got up the next morning and no stiffness went to Sydney (five hour drive) no stiffness!!!! Amazing stuff. If everyone found out about it doctors would be out of business.

My mum taught me about the wonders of bicarb soda when I was a kid.
indigestion? Bicarb solution
1 tspn dissolved in a glass of water. Chug it down, hold off from burping until it you can't hold it any longer. Acid creates gas in your tummy which gets released in a big (albeit disgusting tasting) burp - No more indigestion!
Something dirty? Bicarb and vinegar.
Need to clean your washing machine? fill your tub with hot water, let 2cups of vinegar and 1/2 cup bicarb to soak in the water for an hour and then let the wash cycle complete, flushing the solution through the works :)
Boiling vinegar and bicarb will clean your grimey cloggy sink drains.
Mouth ulcers? Bicarb paste.
Smear bicarb directly onto the sores and let sit as long as you can tolerate the taste. Or dip a soft toothbrush into the soda and use instead of toothpaste.

Thank Hazel (18 January 04) I know that was ages ago BUT recently tried a new toothpaste and I got ulcers. At first I did not think it was the toothpaste but I am beginning to think it was from reading these comments.
Bicarb seems to be working - I will keep you all posted on how this goes.

I used Whiter Image Teeth Whitener 60 minutes per day for 7 days following the products instructions. One day later I had mouth ulcers tongue sores a sore throat and swollen glands. I have been suffering for 5 days now and I am about to file a lawsuit against this Company. I bought this from my Dentist. I am on Antibiotics for three days so far. My Dentist prescribed Lidocaine Viscous. It numbs the mouth & is the only relief I have had in 5 days. DO NOT USE ANY OF THESE DISASTROUS PRODUCTS! It is not worth it. Also, any throat lozenge with Benzocaine brings some relief.

I have chemical burns to my mouth with ulcers, blisters, skin sloughing of from the inside of my mouth due to NITE WHITE TEETH WHITENER - Do not use this product!! Do not trust a dentist, mine was done through a dentist and this dentist did not tell me the risk associated with putting a bleach in your mouth. In Australia 22 teeth whitening products have been recalled by ACCC, why you ask because there were numerous complaints from consumers getting chemical burns in their mouths from teeth whitening products....and get this you can't buy high percentage teeth whitening products from shops or online but you can buy from a dentist, even though ACCC say it's dangerous and poses serious health problems to consumers, something is really wrong here, as the dentist sells it to you to take home which to me is DIY - I have been to the doctors four times and the hospital...my mouth is burning and pain is excruciating, I have been told by the last doctor I saw to mix carb soda and water and rinse my mouth out with this and also brush my teeth with it, she said that its used in cancer paitents who have chemical burns to there mouth from radiation.....when good results so I've been trying it only tonight and dosent aggravate my mouth but soothes it, so will just see in a few days if my mouth improves, cause it hasnt in four weeks....I trusted the dentist and was not told the risks of this product and there was no patient information brochure in the box......also I have white spots on my teeth, my teeth are worse.....all I can say is don't use a teeth whitener, search the internet of the dangers of teeth whiteners and it will shock you...

Bicarb of soda is safe to ingest as long you don't overdo it. As well as mouth ulcers it works on sore throat (gargle a solution), wax blocked ears (solution used with ear dropper), insect bites (paste), urinary infections, thread worms, indigestion, bloating, wind, diarrhoea (teaspoon dissolved in warm water) - in fact just about any ailment you can think of. Obviously you should go to the doctor if symptoms don't clear up in a few days, but give it a try first. If you sniff the powder off the back of your hand when you feel a cold coming on, your nose will run furiously for about half an hour and then -99 times out of a 100 - the symptoms will have disappeared. Apart from a packet of painkillers for the occasional headache, a pot of bicarbonate of soda is all you need in your medicine cupboard.

Salt is too vicious on your tooth enamel to be used for teeth cleaning. You'll wear out your tooth enamel really, really quickly. It's fine as a mouthwash though.

I quit regular toothpastes and went to Oral-B ĒZendiumĒ that has no sodium lauryl sulfate detergent, then tried sodium bicarbonate (also known as baking soda and bread soda) and found it did a very good job cleaning my teeth. I was happy for about two months then started getting successive sores on the lips again. I went back to Zendium and started taking Vitamin B complex tablets and smearing Gengigel on any tingling spots, and havenít had a sore develop for some weeks now.

Having suffered with mouth ulcers all my 36 years, I was finding recently that toothpaste seemed to be a particular irritant. Three months ago, a pharmacist suggested brushing my teeth with bicarbonate of soda powder instead of toothpaste - and IT WORKED LIKE A MIRACLE FOR ME! (Just dip a wet toothbrush into the powder, and clean!) It not only healed the ulcers, it also prevents new ones from developing into the really vicious ones Iíve always had. Iíll find new ones start during the day, and then by morning theyíve vanished, whereas it used to be that by morning theyíd become huge and excruciatinly painful. Itís not particularly pleasant, brushing with sodium bicarb, but who cares if it prevents the misery of mouth ulcers? Bicarbonate of soda is (among other things) a cleaning agent, and is therefore very suitable for teeth-cleaning. Every day is like a holiday still, when I get up and realise that I have no mouth ulcers - again! I do hope other people might find it works for them too. Itís so simple and cheap - Iíd love to know if it works for other people too. Good luck fellow sufferers!
