How I stopped my mouth ulcers

2 messages in this subject.

I have suffered with extreme ulcers for years, since I was maybe 7 years old. I saw a specialist who tried many treatments with me including mouthwashes, steroids and others. Currently I take Dapsone every other day which does seem to keep them away however if I inadvertently eat something which my body has a problem with, they come back with a vengeance. Usually 10+ at a time where I am unable to eat, sleep, talk and honestly the pain is so bad I try to sleep all day just to be free of it.

Some trigger foods for me are definitely pineapple, high salt foods, high sugar foods, crisps, merang, tortilla chips. I have a feeling there’s a common ingredient but I have not yet worked it out.

I find ibuprofen to be better than paracetamol (the strong ones), wash the mouth out with gin or vodka (instant numbing), custard or natural yoghurt is good too. They ruin my life and the pain I experience makes me cry.

I suffered from severe bouts of mouth ulcers for years on gums and tongue which made me feel very down. I now realise after much research how complicated the mouth is and how important it is to maintain the fine balance of microbes and bacteris. Certain mouth washes say kills 99% bacteria, well thats not all good because it also kills the good bacteria you need to protect that fine bakance. I cut down on use of mouthwashes, never using the alcohol version? I use a simple warm mouth wash with a half tsp bakingsoda plus a pinch of salt. I did not know my favourite fruit, pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that digests protein affecting the tongue especially, goodbye pineapple. Also stopped eating bananas and chocolate as they can cause a reaction in some people. I avoid toothpaste with sodium lauryl sulphate which is in most common toothpastes. I included lysine in my daily vitamins as it helps to protect against mouth ulcers and cold sores. Stress is an obvious factor and having continuous mouth ulcers adds to that stress. Everyone has a different makeup and different allergies but I hope these suggestions which work for me will be guide to other sufferers.
