Do not drink warm water or anything warm:like coffee or tea. It will only make your ulcer worse. Instead try drinking cold water, it really helps in painful situations.

Changing toothpaste would work. Most of the toothpaste contain sodium lauryl sulphate which causes painful mouth ulcers. So I recommend using sensodyne toothpastes.

HI Annette
I find brushing my tongue along with the lemon juice rota and changing my toothbrush every fortnight has been helpful, took advice from dentist as bacteria is in your mouth and especially in toothbrush after 3 weeks, it was worth doing to help these dreaded ulcers all the time.

I get major apthous ulcers (1 cm) that last for months, usually accompanied by a white coating on my tongue (not Thrush). To get rid of the white coating, I was advised to rinse/gargle in lemon juice (half a slice of lemon with half a cup of boiling water - cooled, of course). It certainly got rid of the white coating after a few goes - not sure whether it helps anything else. I have to experiment a bit more with using it to treat the ulcers (haven't used it yet when my ulcers are bad) and drinking it in the mornings. If you try this, remember to clean your teeth after, within 20 mins to prevent decay.

You need to use fresh lemon juice.

Do you need to actually use fresh lemon juice or will lemon squash do?

I have suffered all my life with mouth ulcers and get them constantly especially around PMT time. I have tried everything including aloe vera juice (which didnít work). Anyway I have found drinking a hot/warm cup of water with lemon juice in it every morning has stopped me getting an ulcer for a month and half so far. The drink cleanses and helps rid any toxins in your body. A naturopath once told me that my ulcers were caused by a build up of toxins?? Maybe there is a link?? Give it a go it might work for you too...
