I have had mouth ulcers for almost a year straight. I am so miserable. I have been in lysine and I believe they help a little, but I'm really miserable. Any suggestions on anything else. I have tried so many things and they will not go away. Thank you |

Would mouth ulcers be considered canker sores, as well. Problems with that since menopause. DESPERATE FOR HELP!!!!! |

Like one of those above, a pharmacist told me about Lysine. I knew certain things triggered what we called "fever blisters." Being sick, sun-burns or extreme upset. All my life me and my mother dealt with these painful, ugly sores. So, I tried the Lysine and it changed my life and my mother's too. If we feel one coming on...(maybe you'll get a little itchy spot on your lip and then a little bump, we'll take a Lysine. I'll take 1 of those big horse-pill sizes and maybe take another one before I go to bed at night on the first day. After that, I might take 1 a day for three days. If I've let the cold sore sneak upon me, I might have to treat it a little more aggressively but I never have a blister that stays on my mouth anymore. I always get rid of them before they start and at most have a little place that disappears quickly. Lysine has truly been like a miracle for me. My son gets them too and he uses Lysine and has had the same results. If you are a cold sore sufferer, I believe Lysine can change your life just like it did mine. I hope one more testimonial helps. I found this out about 15 years ago and it has worked for me ever since. |

Has anyone used lysine on a 10 year old child before? Do I give it to him constantly daily or just when he starts to get the sores? Should he take 500 mg or 1000 mg? He's a very skinny kid, less thanj 75 lbs but average to tall height. |

I have had very painful and large mouth ulcers off and on for the past 30-40 years and never found anything that did more than deal with the pain after the fact until I started using l-lysine a few months ago. I think it is a miracle cure, because the 1,000 mg pill I take daily has prevented beginning ulcers from becoming painful at all and they go away almost as quickly as they show up. I haven't detected any side effects or problems with taking it once a day, as a preventative measure. I'm sold and grateful to have finally found something that works! |

Lysine is an amino acid. l-lysine is vegetable derived s-lysine is animal derived. It is part of the amino acid chain. Lacking complete protein is a cause, as is lack of B group vitamins. For more info do a study on every single vitamin, mineral, carbohydrate, EFA, protein Contact: laufalot_dee@hotmail.com It's lifestyle, dietary related. |

L-Lysine definitely has some kind of effect on mouth ulcers. It's not a miracle cure but without any doubt it shortens the length of time they stay around. |

OK, it’s not exactly a scientfic test but for I’ve just had two pre-ulcers (nasty, large bumps, slightly tender) vanish *without* opening up after two days of the Lysine (first time I’ve tried it). I must say that’s the first time an ulcer has got that close but not developed fully as far as I can remember. It may just be the placebo effect of course... |

No prescription needed in the U.S. ~ It’s available just about anywhere that your can purchase vitamins. The type I was taking was huge, it look like a horse pill. Good luck! |

Do you need a prescription in the U.S. for Lysine? Been suffering for years and especially now with one under my tongue. |

I’m not sure if the Lysine is working but touch wood i haven’t had an ucler for about a month now!! I’ve had a few scares where a bump appears - but instead of taking one tablet i take two! It’s totally worth trying. Good Luck. |

From what I can tell Dom, it’s some kind of painkiller (analgesic)... unfortunately I don’t think its anything to do with l-lysine.... |

Lysine does seem to work - for me anyway. At the first sign of an ulcer I took 1000mg twice a day and within three days it was gone. |

I am taking 1 500gm tablet morning and night I will get the tingle but take the tablet and nothing comes up!!My health food store lady said that you can not overdose on Lysine and about 500gm to 100gm a day constantly won’t hurt as it is a natural almino acid that leeches from the body naturally daily. |

Does anyone know how much Lysine to take and for how long? Do you take higher doses when you have a canker sores and smaller doses when you are inbetween sores? Can you take too much Lysine? |

I have had mouth ulcers on & off since 1996 and a pharmacist put me on to lysine in ’97 or ’98(it’s generally used for cold soes). I took a course of it for two months and I didn’t get any for a year or two. They came back, but I just take a 500mg tablet of Lysine every day and if I bite my lip of gums or knock them with the toothbrush, I up the dosage to 2 in the morning & 2 in the evening until it starts to go(which is in two or three days.....as opposed to 2 or 3 weeks). It really does work...give it a go, what can u lose!!! |
