REALLY big mouth ulcers 98 messages in this subject Twitter

Just found this site. At least I’m not the only one. I know others who gety mouth ulcers (including my wife) but they are all small (around 2mm) in size and are bubbles
The ulcers I get regularly are concave cavities which grow to around 10mm diameter before going away. Sometimes in 2’s and 3’s. Last for around 10 days before disappearing. They make my life a misery. End up being grumpy with my family and at work. (I especially hate it when I have a meeting where I have to do a lot of talking).
Doctor says ask the dentist.
Dentist says ask the doctor.
Does anyone else here get mouth ulcers this size.

Yes i do a lot, they make my mouth feel shit, get a nasty no clean feel in them when i get massive ulcers, i get rid of one ulcer and then another comes a long

People might say I’m crazy...but I’ll tell you anyway...At the first inkling of an ulcer, apply TCP liquid - just dab it on with your finger a few times (you’ll get used to the taste) - It won’t make it go away, but I believe it will limit it’s severity and shorten it’s life significantly...repeat application daily until it goes...TRY IT AND SEE FOR YOURSELF - and I’m not the CEO of TCP International in case you’re wondering - just a fellow sufferer - good luck...!!!

have to say that i also get them in really huge sizes, average of 1-2cm in diameter , have had bigger and smaller, but hey. the quack keeps teelling me i will grow out of it, but at 21 one i feel i won’t be lucky, having had them ever since i can remember. if anyone comes up with anything please let me know, cheers

I also get HUGE ulcers, but what I found helps is when u see a new one coming, DAB IT WITH PURE SALT WATER, you might start crying or tears will come from your eyes. BUT, if u do this a few times a day, it doesnt go big at all, und it goes away quicker.
Ulcer-Crazy 6 July 03

my friend just told me this also, put up with the taste of a bit of salt water and rinse your mouth out a few times a day, he said his went away after this. im going to try this the remainder of the day. then 2mo im off to get some bicard of soda to brush my teeth with, heard this is good also from a fellow sufferer on here, oops lady i mean :)
Dave (UK) 6 July 03

my ulcers are really big and horrible, i can’t talk, drink or eat! All i want to do is sleep until they go away but that usually takes up to a month. I am so horrible to the people who love me most and they are only trying to help! but it gets a bit annoying when people who havent had an ulcer in their life says try this do this, hello! ive tried everything. ive went to the doc, she sent me to the dentist,he sent me back, i finally got sent to a specialist who took tests including a biopsy who then has the cheek to turn round and say ”sorry we can’t find anything wrong”. i don’t believe in using salt or bonjela, i think its stupid going through 1 minute of blinding pain for 4 minutes of numbness. ive lost a stone in weight and my partner thinks ive gone off him because ive gone off kissing and im missing work because it involves talking, let’s face it people there is no cure and we are all DOOMED!!!!!!!!!!!!
Leeann (uk) 27 July 03

I've suffered from mouth ulcers for 28 Years I used to use some disinfectant and tcp. When they arrived they lasted 2 weeks, then I'd have two weeks before they came back again! As a trumpet player that was big problem. They were big, painfull and everywhere. Quite often I couldn't speak. The bloke from the Chemists (which is where I bought the disinfectant) told me to stop using it as he thought it was destroying my imune system and making things worse. I also started using a plastic trumpet mouthpiece (in case I had some sort of alergy to the metal). After a while of no treatment and trying to boost my imune system they became less frequent and now I hardly get them at all and when I do they stay small and don't last very long.

I get massive ulcers too and get really pissed off when people say Oh I get those two and show ou something the size of a pin head on their tongue - it always gives me great satisifcation to stick out my tongue and show them the cm craters on the end of mine!

Glad to see that other people also have suffered from big mouth ulcers. My family were worried all week and tried to get me to go back to the doctors again because they haven't seen any ulcer more than 2cm long. I have tried salt water for 2 days now and it seems to help with the pain but still can't eat any solid so I'm living on mango & guava juice at the moment. This is horrible stuff. Thanks for sharing!
Salilo 12 January 09

I get really big mouth ulcers. Its 26th of Jan and I have had constant ulcers since befor christmas....I just feel like crying as they comsume your life. You can's sleep, talk, eat or breath without being in pain. I feel like I get them from being stressed, but then I get get more stressed when I have them so I have no idea how to get rid of them. I am so angry when I have them but my family is oblivious!! I cant kiss my husband and that really sucks!!
There has to be something to do to get them under control, maybe someone should start a researching thingy to find a cure or prevention!!

Ive got a big soft lump in my mouth and im pretty sure its an ulcer. Im only 15 and im not a smoker,if thats any help. But i do wear retainers for my teeth, ive had them for a while and theyve gone pretty gross, i try brushing them to clean them so i dont get bacteria in my mouth, could the retainers be causing my ulcers?

I'm 38 and i've had these pests all my life, although more so in recent years, i get a week every so often when i'm ulcer free. The only things that work for me are Adcortyl or Corsodyl (original not the daily), beware the Corsodyl turns your teeth brown but I am totally ulcer free when using it, the Adcortyl only seems to work when the ulcer has been established for about a week, but the Ulcer can go overnight.
John 11 March 09

I have been a chronic sufferer of mouth ulcers for last 9 years and used to get about 2 attacks a month, each lasting about 2 weeks each. So almost every month was pure misery in every sense of the word. Very difficult to eat or talk. Almost every medication I have tried is pretty much useless. However, I have taken it upon myself to try get it cured. I have found out that mostly the ulcers are due to very poor digestion and if you are keen to be free from them in the long term, please make an effort to change your diet.
Since start of January 2009, I gave up eating Non Vegetarian food, relying on only vegetarian food. Also cut out spicy food, deep fried food and Chocolates. I found that in the last two months, I have been ulcer free, until last week, I again got one. But this time, it was only one ulcer which was painful, but lasted only about a week. It is definitely an improvement and 2 months being ulcer free in last 9 years is pure heaven.

I think the answer is in addressing the deeper issues and not look for medication after there is a ulcer. I also do a lot of visualization and this helps reduce the severity of the ulcers.

I suggest people to start changing their diet so that you can be ulcer free.

I will keep you all posted, but I definitely feel so much better, not to mention, I lost about 16 pounds also in weight.
No complaints.

I still have the soft lump in my mouth and it doesnt hurt at all. im worried :(
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
Worried :( 20 March 09

try LASOGEN gel and DEBAX mouth spray........i get max 20 ulcers in mouth at a time every month...and it works....
xyz.... 20 March 09

I think there might a link to weak immune systems and continuing mouth ulcers. For example, huge numbers of ulcers can be a symptom of some autoimmune disorders likel lupis. I would suggest anyone who continually suffers from mouth ulcers to try and improve their immune system's strength instead of just trying to treat the symptoms (the mouth ulcers) themselves with salt etc. Things you can do include increasing your intake of vitamin c, e, iron and zinc... basically just eat a healthy balanced diet. Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night. Stress weakens your immune system a great deal. Eating large amounts of sugar can also be bad for you. Overall just try and get healthier.. hope this helps

A doctor told my mom to make this and its worked wonders for me: A Mixture of 1/2 mylanta & 1/2 liquid Benadryl. Swish & spit.. Not only does it get rid of them in a matter of days but numbs them so there's no pain,
Juna'uh 27 April 09

girl with soft lump. if it's not hurting it's not an ulcer. my boyfriend had a weird lump thing too in his mouth and he went to the doctor and they said not to worry about it unless it doesn't go away after a few weeks.

it looks like it's been there a while though so if it's still there you should go to a doc just to be safe :)
ashika 28 April 09

I definately agree that they are caused from stress, lack of sleep and/or poor diet. I've been drinking 1-2 cups of coffee a day since having my babies and have noticed my immune system has been struggling. But, I love my coffee too much to consinder giving it up. I'm breastfeeding as well as getting up to the two of them between 2-6 times a night...so not much "good deep sleep" for me. I used to get them as a kid too, when I had my braces on my teeth. That is when they started. My mouth used to get a cut from the metal or wires and then fester into a bigger sore, then the inside of my lips would crack or peel and/or the roof of my mouth would turn rough and flourey and all the ridges would swell and bleed. At one stage I couldn't bear to eat for 2wks. Antibacterial mouth-washes were burning what was left of the good flesh...it's evil stuff. My cures so far in life are salty water washouts, drink more water, chewing sugar free gum, chewing and swallowing 3-4 large stems of parsley plants from my herb garden (a natural mouth antibacterial - great for bad breath too), a better diet including more Vit C fruits, Vit E (from a capsule) oil directly onto the sores. My mum swears that more water consumption every day fixes EVERYTHING! I'm beginning to think she's right.

I know big ulcers really bug me and i hate them alot they are always in the wrong spot and hurting all the time and it really is anoying. I some times go to the doctor and he say sgo to the dentist and they say got to the doctors.i find them really anoying so i am always angry because they are right there in your mouth and i hate them so much i wish you can just go and pull them off.
ME 28 June 09

I've suffered with ulcers since I was about 2 years old and they've always been huge. They used to be so mad I couldn't talk at all & used to cry when opening my mouth. They were at thier worse during puberty but I've found they have really cleared up since having my children. I'm 28 now & my wisdom teeth have just decided to grow through & I've got the mother of all ulcers at the back behind my new wisdom tooth, I can't open my mouth wider than a spoon, can't talk properly & can't get a toothbrush in at all. I've had all of those lovely blood tests and biopsy's but I'm apparently very healthy. I've tried every traditional treatment and a fair few unconventional ones but as much as it brings out your inner swearing sailor salt water is the only thing that works. (Bonjela was created by the devil! ;-) I'm off to the dentist tomorrow in the hopes that it may be an abcess because at least that can be fixed!
Gem 13 July 09

I've read all your replies and it does sooth me to find that there is ways to get rid of this. I'm scared to death cause this is the biggest ulcer i've had yet. I do use chewing tobacco and thats probably why i do get ulcers, but they usually are small and very painful. This ulcer i have now is massive to me probably about 8-10mm but it doesn't hurt like my little ulcers. I've had it now for about 6 days and it won't go away. I'm kind of scared that it might me cancer but can anybody tell me if its just an ulcer or cancer? It looks like an ucler, but i'm not sure cause this one is huge.
VB 14 July 09

For the women sufferers out there, I have learned that my periods are the cause of my mouth ulcers, when I was pregnant my periods stopped (obviously) and so did my mouth ulcers, but when I gave birth and I was back to myself again with my monthly cycle, the ulcers returned also. I then went on the contraceptive injection which completly stops my periods and guess what my ulcers are no where to be seen. I did come off the injection about 1 year ago as I was gaining weight, but what a mistake that was, the ulcers came back with my periods and went straight back on the injection. If you are a female sufferer, and you are anything like me I would talk to your GP about a contraceptive that will stop your periods (if your cause is like mine) its the only thing that lets me get on with my life in peace. xx
Kim 14 July 09

My mouth ulcers are huge! I have suffered from them most of my adult life and I am 27 now. I am so glad this website exists because it makes me see that I am not the only sufferer. Recently, my ulcers have got a lot worse and are appearing on my tongue rather than gums. This has made it so uncomfortable to eat and talk - some stages, all I want to do is sleep because they are so painful. I have recently moved out of my parents house and they have gotten worse since doing this. I believe they have got worse due to my change of lifestyle - I do tend to stress a lot too, which also brings them on. Everyone on this forum will know that we know how to treat them (to an extent) when we get them - what we want to know is, how can we stop getting them?!?!!? Once you've got the beginnings of one, you just know that you are in for a 2 week spell of misery! For the last 2 months, I have not been without an ulcer in my mouth and it's multiple ulcers, not just one! Aaaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!! I'm going to try the change of diet route and see what happens!

I get really bad mouth ulcers especially around my wisdom teeth. Try clove gel from superdrug/boots. Really numbs pain whilst healing. Instantly works'

I have a mouthful of large ulcers on the insides of my mouth and the upper mouth. Could they also me in the
esophogus? I had to drink two gallons of trylyte as a prep for a colonoscopy. Could this cause it. It's the first outbreak I've had , and it's major!
mary 16 August 09

i keep getting very sore mouth ulcers.i am very worried about the dreaded mouth cancer although in most cases treated early is often good.they start small then over a two to three week period grow to 1.5cm plus(same ulcer).starts small and increases non stop for this period)i am 26 and have had this problem for atleast 5yrs.recently ive had a dentist check up 5- 8 weeks later than scheduled as the pain was to much to have a dentist checking my teeth.somer points i cant even brush my teeth for a two week period maybe more( i feel very dirty but have no option) however i use a lot of mouth wash to counter act this.i am greatlty worried as my dentist recently refered me to hospital for scans at oral sergery.should i be worried hounest opinions only please i need to have the truth
19 September 09

iv often had small mouth ulcers but i got huge ones in my mouth, they then moved onto my tongue n started to travel down my neck, the pain was unbearable.
they lasted for 5weeks,i was in hospital, and was very weak.
it took me nearly 2months to fully recover.
i tink i got them from not eating properly,my whole immune system crashed, and it floored me so bad and i was really getting depressed from it all.
im now getting back to normal,iv started taking vitamins eating plenty of fruit and veg,ang just trying to build my immune system back up. a good diet and excersize has really helped me
joe 25 ireland 20 September 09

I used to get ulcers all the time, I believe that it's lifestyle related, lack of sleep, stress, alcohol and partying play a big part. Sometimes they do just appear randomly though. My lifestyle has calmed significantly over the last year and I've been getting one every couple of months or so whereas I used to get them almost weekly. Strong salt water rinsed around the mouth 2 or 3 times a day definitely helps!
David 22 September 09

Well, I've linked my ulcers to constipations but they come even when the goings smooth. The issue is, I have a gig in a couple of days and my mouth has decided to erupt even though the systems clean. I remember once during a surgery for an abcess in my lower back I'd got an injection which made the worst set of ulcers I've even had completely disappear in a day. Wish I could remember what it was. Idiot, idiot, idiot. Plz say a little prayer for my gig :-(
SK 22 September 09

I also get very big ulcers that make me feel realy depressed as talking, eating and drink is so painfully. Is it just me or does anyone get them taht bad that the outside of the ucler is very raised and red and it even starts pussing sometimes, tried everything nothing is anygood, although spoke to the Dentist yesterday as she is new to our surgery and for once she gave me some advice that made sense, she siad it maybe stress as we all know or foods but also said it can be a vitamin dificiency and told me to start taking multi vitiamin each day and see how I get on. Lets hope it helps !!! She also gave me some Triaminolone Paste which I am yet to collect. Lets also hope this works, its worth a try.
Kirstie 15 October 09

That Triaminolone Paste does help a little but a pain to put on. I got the dentist to put something on mine its a liquid that she dapped on which covered my ulcer it really really hurt when she did it. It did stop the pain after and went a couple of days later. I will find out the name and put it on here. It does really help, Im glad my dentist is a friend of the family as I am forever going. x
Lucy 15 October 09

Hi, I'm having my first ever mouth ulcer at the fragile age of 45 :) It started a few months ago, just felt something odd in my inner cheek, no pain or other symptoms. Sometimes it hurt a bit when brushing my teeth or eating carrots or something hard. 5 weeks ago the pain started. I visited my GP who prescribed orabase paste. That didn't help a lot. I've now tried salt water, corsadyl, bonjela, aloclare and a few other products. No healing whatsoever. It has got worst and getting bigger being about 1.5cm and quite deep. The pain is intensive. The last 3 weeks I've been on strong pain killers co codamol and dromadol. Can't sleep properly as have to wake up every 2-3 hours to swish with corsadyl and take more painkillers that cause constapation so have to take laxatives after every meal. It has taken over my life, eating, talking or just opening my mouth hurts. I've seen 2 dentists and 3 doctors, no help whatsoever. Now waiting to see an oral surgeon, don't think that will make a difference though.
I'm now on day 3 on Corlan pellets (hydrocortisone) Hopefully this will help. I eat very healthily and all blood tests came back ideal. How long can this continue? months on end? I will now try and exclude some foods like bananas and acidic berries. I have had some stress over a few months, that might have contributed, separation, new job and moving houses. I just want to get rid of it and get my life back !! Having read the above posts I noticed similar symptoms and circumstances. Has anyone had ulcers cleaned and stiched up or any kind of reconstructive surgery?
CM 2 November 09

Update. Still having the huge ulcer in my cheek. Have tried now salt water, corsodyl, cortisone pellets, bonjela, sulfuric acid (oral medic, boots mouth ulcer treatment or similar), dentist smoothened my wisdom tooth, elimination diet (eliminated citrus fruit, hard foods, bananas, alcohol, caffeine) NOTHING has worked, still there, pain is 24/7.
Three days ago I started eating junk food, sugar, white bread etc (been for a long time on extremely healthy balanced diet. I also started smoking, this probably reduces the pain a little bit.
Now I'm gonna go and buy Lysine and Gengigel after reading about good results some have had.
7 weeks of sheer pain and so far nothing has helped much. I will report in a few days time again.
CM 9 November 09

To CM:
I had the same problem once, ended up needing a very large chunk of skin all around the ulcer cut out as it all contained the infection. Basically started with a tiny cut on my upper gum near my teeth. I thought it would go away but it just kept growing and growing and growing.
I visited about 3 dentists during the ordeal and 2 out of the 3 were saying i would need to remove 2 teeth around the gum also, in order to remove the skin.
As you can probably guess, I (Being very stubborn) refused this treatment, and after about 3 weeks This thing had consumed most of my mouth, I had several large ulcers lining the inside of my lip and gums. They were VERY painful, several were begining to form pus, and i literally had to injest my food via a straw for the weeks leading up to the final operation.
It has been 2 months since the final operation and i currently am ulcer free, Owing mainly to the fact that i am missing most of my Lips and gums and there really isn't that much skin left for an ulcer to infect.
Have been maintaining recent checkups with the doctor, in order to try and determine the initial reason the ulcer became so bad! However, during the last checkup the doctor stated that i have cancer of mouth, which has now spread to my stomach, eyes and liver...
So i obviously i was freaking out about this, had no idea what to do, so i went home and told this to my mum and my mumma got scared and said "You're moving with your aunty and uncle in Bel-air".
Will 11 November 09

Will, sorry to hear about your ordeal. Sounds pretty hardcore to me. Did they not detect that cancer before they decided to remove all that tissue?
CM 13 November 09

Yes they are like being in hell, I hve experienced these painful ulcers right from my childhood. It was very painful and depressing, I usually taken B-Complex tablets and sometimes Lactic acid basillus and applying ayurvedic(Indian method) medicinal paste
Mallikarjun 13 November 09

i have two big ulcers on my bottom lip and im only 9 and im quite scared about how big they are
jordan 16 November 09

I know how you guys feel. I currently have an ulcer (about 1.2cm big), it really hurts and makes it difficult to talk, eat or even sleep. Although, mine was injury inflicted (I bit down on my cheek and it swelled up a bit and an ulcer appeared after 2 days).

*sigh* I guess I'll try to get whatever sleep I can tonight and buy some Bonjela in the morning, it rarely works for me though. :(

Mable Chin 17 November 09

What is TCP and where do u buy it?
Jack 22 November 09

Jack - TCP is an antiseptic liquid marketed for a number of ailments (cuts, grazes, spots, sore throats etc), you can find it in any decent chemist type place - brown glass bottle with blue/green label usually! If I use it on ulcers I use cosmetic shaped cotton buds (the ones with a larger flat end) to apply it but you can use fingers too.
Jacqui 22 November 09

i think my ulcer problem was passed down from my dad because he also has very bad ulcer problems. the only way i know how to avoid ulcers are to stay away from greasy fast food and spicy food, which are my favorite. I get ulcers like every month that last two weeks and they are a pain in the mouth. They're mainly caused by me biting my gums. I really hope they find a treatment or remedy the works really well.
katy 1 December 09

My dad also had ulcers when he was younger and now I seem to suffer from them too, I currently have 2 big ones, one at the side on my gum and the other on my lip , my lip has swelled up slightly on the inside and I keep biting it by mistake, which is very painful! I also find this can be caused from brushing your teeth to hard, for those who find it hard to eat, apparently icy water is good as it numbs the ulcers, this should be swished around the mouth before eating! Good luck!
Rachel 1 December 09

hi you can try Dologel (By reddy labs) it relieve pain and makes it numb for some minutes, i use it before taking food, also before going to meet my Boss, or to make imp phone call.
I know it really sucks you may loose weight also, as one had already said the only thing I like to do is sleep till it cures which is not possible.
Varun 3 December 09

Hi everyone..i currently have the biggest mouth ulcer ever on the side of my tongue and i could cry everytime i have to move my mouth :O( i have hydrocortisone pellets from doc but im not sure if they are working to be honest and i just feel totally drained. The reason i get them is because i have chronic neutropenia (low white blood cells) of no known cause so they cant do anything about it..i just have to get on with it. If anyone knows of anything i can use in conjunction with the pellets..or any painkillers that work.. i would be so so grateful to you :O(
mimm 8 December 09

I have a few at the moment and they're so painful. The main one is 2cm in length and 1.5cm in width and is on the left hand side of my tongue going underneath. It's agony. To add to that i have a few normal sized ones on the tip of my tongue and on the right hand side of it. Then i have one on the inside of each cheek and one on the inside of my gum next to my tongue. I'm riddled.

Went to the docs today and have been given antibiotics and betamethasone which is a steriod lozenge. Boy does that one absolutely kill when it's applied! Gah!!

I've never had an ulcer this large or painful before. It makes eating, drinking, even speaking so painful. I'm turning into a mute it's that bad!

Will try anything though so will give tcp a bash tonight. I need these ulcers gone by the weekend as i have a xmas doand want to be on form!
Nicki 9 December 09

Speaking of mouth ulcers, I dont know why i always have them either on the side of my lips or the top of my lips. I dont have just one, but usually, I have FOUR. I always have them every single month. It is not small but it is so huge and it cause so much pain that I can never ate my food and brush my teeth. I dont know if this is hereditary since my mom also have some huge mouth ulcers on her mouth.

I even thought of purchasing the numbing cream (not the injectable formula) that the dentist put on their patient's mouth during tooth extraction. I want to apply such to temporarily kill the pain just for me to eat and brush my teeth.. Do you think its advisable?????
Ben needs helP 15 December 09

Ben - you can get creams with Lidocaine in that temporarily numb ulcers - it may be similar to that which the dentist uses but speak to your pharmacist for the strongest versions.
Good luck
Kate 15 December 09

My one is literaly 1.2cm and i've had it for about a month, nothing helps :. (
Calvin 15 December 09

I have had a mouth ulcer off and on for several months now. I think that it is always there but just tends to get better and then get worse again. I have gone to the Dr and the Dentist and no one can give me a straight answer. They basically say that they don't really know how these things work and they can't tell me if it's contagious. It's on the hard palate of my mouth and looks more like a canker core than a cold sore. Plus, I have never had a cold sore before. Does anyone know if this is contagious?????

If you're looking for something medical to help, I treat my ulcers (I get them regularly) with cephalexin. It's an antibiotic that treats infections on the body caused by bacteria. it's not made SPECIFICALLY for ulcers, but it helps kill them quicker.

i've had them all my life (I'm 21 now) but I don't get them near as bad as I used to. I don't know about all of you, but I get them mostly because of stress, and I tend to accidentally bite my lip/cheek a lot while eating- another major cause of mouth ulcers.

hope this helps.

Ive suffered with mouth ulcers since i can remember! Got one this evening and ive been snapping at my boyfriend on the phone as he couldnt hear me as his tv was loud which meant i had to keep repeating what i was saying which was hurting my ulcer as i cant talk properly or anything even when i dont move my mouth it hurts! Im never a wimp ever but this ulcer is HUGE! and its my day off work and ive been suffering also my glands have swollen up too i was in tears earlier as i put salt on it in the end so my parents went out and bought me 'Oralmedic' My mum applied it for me and oh my god i screamed and tears were running out of my eyes. The pains gone now though but its swollen up a little but it says only one application needed no need to re apply and keeps the pain away unlike bonjela which only gets rid of pain for like 5-10 mins if that. Seems to have worked so far just made my mouth uncomfortable. Why do we get them. i feel like such a wimp over a small thing in my mouth (even though its big) but the pain is awful and thr fact i cant talk eat or sleep with it is really getting me down. Lets hope by morning its gone or got alot smaller. Its really cool we all get to chat about it on here x

My mouth ulcers grow to about dime size and only on the inside of my lips and cheeks. Very painful, lasting 1 to two weeks. It seems they started three years ago directly correlating with when I began working the night shift. Be sure to keep your your toung, teeth and food away from them! Touching mine widens them and lengthens the healing time. I feel all your pain and will pray for you. Best wishes!

EASY CURE -

you all need to get down to a Boots store, and pick up a packet of 'Frador'
it is usually kept behind the counter and you'll have to ask for it..
Its not like bonjela, aviclor or iglu.. it doesn't smother and cover the ulcer, it actually burns it away.
It stings like hell, but use it a few times a day and within 3 days they'll be gone.
amazing stuff.

I have got a daddy ulcer on my throat! its about 1cm by 1cm in size and flippin kills. Annoyingly i am rubbish at gargling an thats the only way i can get any kind of stuff to help out near it. Its been there for over a week now and is showing no signs of budging. Every time i try to gargle some corsodyl, i end up swallowing half of it!
Russ 22 March 10

My 8 year old has had one since beginning of June last year, on the underside of her tongue, it is huge, at the smallest it is about 7mm and at largest over 1-1.5 cm. When its at its largest it goes into a point and sometimes fills with blood-usually after she has bitten it when eating- she also has a small one jutting out the side of her tonsil, this has only been there for 4 months, previously she had one under her lower lip which lasted 5 months. Hers seem different to most peoples as hers are there continually and do not come and go! Have tried lots of different treatments and are under consultant since last June who is going to remove the tongue one next week-hurrah!
It amazes me that the consultant just takes the ulcers at face value and doesn't seem to want to find the cause though

I started having ulcers in mouth 5 years ago. I have them, whithout stopping, for three years, and they were huge (75% of my mouth). I went to every single doctor in Spain (where i live) and tried every medicine, but nothing worked. They even tried burning them. Now I have another one again, about 7cm (yes, cm, not mm). It started last week and grows 5mm every day. It is killing me and im so scared of having it again for three years, not eating, talking or anything. I just cannot bear it.
Ana 25 March 10

Iv suffered from mouth ulcers constantly for 8 years but I also had other symptoms, such as fatigue, night sweats swollen joints and horrible anal/genital ulcers. If you have other symptoms it can be a sign of auto immune disorders such as Crohns disease or arthritis, lupus, ulcerative colitis or Behcets syndrome. I have Behcets syndrome and it is pretty rare here in the UK. It is worth seeing a doctor and asking for tests if you have other symptoms. Sometimes it is unfortunately just down to a poor immune system but people think rest and good diet can help ulcers, Im not sure.Good luck to all you fellow sufferers I know how hard it is when you can not talk or eat!
Elaine 34, Scotland 25 March 10

i always used to get little ulsers that i took as just happening to everyone, but i recently have been starting to get one every three months and i have gone to the doctor. He will give me antibiotics, only those dont seem to work fast enough and they certainly dont relieve the pain. i am 14 and I have Neutropenia, which is low white blood cells, so maybe that is why i keep getting them? does anyone know of something i can use to ease the pain? I can't keep missing school!

I have discovered a diet plan which will minimize our Mouth ulcers. For me and another 3 persons have been benefited by this. I would like to share my website where I have shared the diet Plan.

NIKKI 9 April 10

Hi everyone! My experience is a bit different to others, but as we now know, everyone has a different set of causes, signs and possible solutions to mouth ulcers. I would like to convey my experience as I have been suffering mouth ulcers for over 22 years. I remember having them at 10 years old and there has not been a 4 month period since then in which I have not had mouth ulcers. There have been a few different causes (stress, run-down, bite my cheek or tongue) and the outcome is always the same; starts small, ends up big. I could have one tiny abrasion in my mouth and then a week later I have 6 or 7 very painful, small to large ulcers (sometimes up to 25mm) which prevent me from eating, talking, and generally feeling happy. I have battled with this pretty much all my life. I have tried absolutely everything, all Orased, SM33 gels etc helped a little numb the pain but none really made a difference to the overall fact that I would have ulcers continually for weeks and months on end. I had blood tests and all sorts of things to try to work out what it was. I dont know why but recently I confronted the symptoms and decided (despite medical advice) that it was bacterial or 'microbial' because no matter what caused one ulcer, I would get a feeling that my inside of my mouth was eating itself and making everything else worse. So if this was the case, what would kill it? I had tried Listerine in the past but had always found it too painfiul to persist with and thought it wasn't doing much anyway. But this time I decided that I would persist and I proceeded to wash my mouth with Listerine (for 60 seconds at a time) at least 6 times a day. Sounds crazy, but I thought if anythings going to kill it, this will! I pushed through the pain barrier and even though I had at least 4 ulcers forming in my mouth (probably only 2-3 mm expecting to grow to 10-25mm; this rigorous routine made them go away - the first time in my life they actually reversed their fate and didn't grow to massive ulcers. I was astounded, and continue to rinse at least twice a day with listerine -- and not an ulcer since (many months ago!) I'm so relieved about this revelation, it is actually life changing and I feel I need to share it with as many sufferers as I can! I hope this helps at least one ulcer sufferer. Cheers, Sally.

Ben needs Help 19 April 10

I've had multiple, huge mouth ulcers since I was a kid. For years they frustrated me and caused me intense pain and discomfort. A remedy was shared with me that seems to work. When you first feel them coming on, and this only works when they're emerging, douse them with Epsom Salts. Epsom Salts right on the baby ulcer keeps them from developing in my mouth. Do it 3-5 times a day until you're sure it's stopped developing. It truly is my miracle because before this, nothing worked. I've been using this remedy for a few years now and it has really changed the situation for me. If you're frustrated and in pain, give this a try. I hope this helps you too.

Humza 18 May 10

Humza, yes I have. Of course no solution works for everyone but this worked for me, and I think many others on these pages. Most toothpastes contain Sodium LaurylSulphate, or SLS. This is a nasty chemical which is a whitening agent, or preservative, or something like that. It interferes with your mouth lining, and if you are sensitive to it, it not only causes ulcers but makes them last longer. You can get non-SLS toothpaste from Superdrug I think, or you can buy Squigle on this site. When I started using Squigle my ulcers cleared up within a few weeks. I went from having several every week, to now having none.
Andrew 19 May 10

Re Andrew's message to Humza, that is what I do also andrew regarding the toothpaste and although it helped me a lot I think folk who are sensitive to SLS in toothpaste can also be sensitive to other stuff ie citrus fruits and fizzy drinks, my dentist told me I had Lichenoid Reaction which is an allergy reaction, I know for a fact now that tomatoes drive me mad and I have ulcers within an hour, or pizza, also noticed that strawberries were anther trigger, maybe along with cutting out the toothpaste chemical, you might want to try and eliminate some stuff from your diet, lucky you Andrew that the toothpaste is your irritant, good luck and hopefully your ulcers are gone for good.

Hi guys I have tried everything!! Rinsing with salt water, bonjela, orabase, oraldene, frador, even that 1 application stuff that burns them away completely. Nothing works!! I get such awful ulcers and i'm in agony for a good 2-3 weeks. I get ulcers that grow
to about just over a cm and 1s that grow In groups too. I brush my teeth twice a day and have good oral hygiene so I don't know why I'm more susceptible to them! Has any1 got a miracle cure other than the ones iv named to help me out coz they really are making me miserable as I'm sure you've all felt yourselves with these buggers. Best wishes to everyone xXX

I have a huge mouth ulcer at the moment just under my bottom middle teeth and its KILLING me :( Nothing is working at all, really need a miracle cure
Tanya 20 May 10

you can try Alum. It is sold in the baking isle and it is used to make pickles. It tastes NASTY but if you apply it for 30 seconds they usually dry up in a few days and it takes the sting out.
Christina 24 May 10

I have two ulsers which are injury inflicted and they really hurt - the exact same place on my top and bottem lip - OW!
Bethany 28 May 10

My daughter is 12 and has suffered frommouth ulcers for about four years. I have noticed that they have been getting more aggresive this past two years. I always assumed that they were the result of stress as they seemed to appear when she was under pressure at school. Recently she has been really bad with constipation and is having to take laxatives every day. Could there be a connection between the bowel and her mouth ulcers. Nothing she takes helps them.
Maggie 6 June 10

Hi Maggie. I am 29 and have been suffering from mouth ulcers pretty much my whole life (well as long as I can remember). I find stress is a factor. Digestive problems also see to impact on their occurrence. I also find that I am more likely to get them at different times of my menstrual cycle if that is an issue for your daughter. I eat quite a large amount of fruit and find that I am more likely to get ulcers when I overload on fruit. I eat a well balanced diet. I didn't have a particularly stressful childhood. IN short I don't think there is anything in particular that causes them just a combination of problems which make me more prone to suffering with them. I have researched and tried everything possible - I don't think there is a cure.
Louise 7 June 10

my girlfriend has about 10 ulcers and they are quite painful.. she keeps putting cream on them but as one dissapears another one appears. does any1 know what this could be ??
will 9 June 10

mouth ulcers are often caused by not brushing your teeth properly and damaging your gums. i always get them when i slip and accidentally slightly cut my gum with my toothbrush. the same goes with braces - they rub against the inside of the lip and cause damage to the tissue and thus an ulcer forms.

another factor is mouthwash that is too strong and as a result can cause 'burns' and damage to the tongue and cheeks.

i only get ulcers when the above happens, and they havent been that bad before. but recently i've had a particularly severe one, and i found that using an anti-septic cream works really work for a temporary period of time (about 2-3 hours, which is better than nothing).

stress is another factor, but i think a lot of the time it's just damage to the gums. so for anyone who's tried everything, try brushing your teeth more gently and frequently changing your toothbrush. it's also probably a good idea to get a toothbrush with softer bristles and/or mouthwash that is for more sensitive mouths (and has no alcohol).
roman 23 June 10

I went to the hospital because I get really bad ulcers, theyre often huge and even occur in my throat. The doctor basically said theres no real way of preventing them unless there is something wrong with you in terms of a vitamin defficiancy- its a good idea to get a blood test to see if this is the case. Other than that it is stress and lifestyle and the fact that some people are just unfortunately prone to them but generally grow out of them at some point. I was prescribed some steroids to use as a mouthwash but am yet to see how effective this is.
Natalie 6 July 10

I have suffered since i was in my mid-teens. Recnetly, I was diagnosed with a gluten sensitivity. These ulcers have always seemed like a reaction to me. I have cut out the gluten, but last week while vacationing, was not as diligent. Today I can barely swallow as my throat and toungue are covered. I am curious if anyone else has noticed this connection.

This has nothing to do with the way I brush my teeth....
Holly 3 August 10

I went to the dentist a few weeks ago to have my braces on. I' m still having difficulty in eating because of the wires. I also observed that I' m having a lot of cuts inside my mouth because of the wires and I consider it very undesirable.
game site 16 August 10

I just got the biggest ulcer ever on the inside of my bottom lip, about 2 cm in length, 1.5 cm in width and make me look like someone's punched me in the face and given me a swollen lip. I noticed a cut in the same place late yesterday and didn't think it would turn into this ugly thing.
I've read all these posts and am unsure to why it's gotten to this size. I'm sick with a head cold right now and had to work a 4 and a half hour shift last night, then was up till about 3:30 am this morning finishing an assignment for school. I've taken today off school (my sister took the assignment in for me) and have been trying to fix this "thing" all day.
Could working all night and being sick have made the ulcer worse??
I've tried VEGEMITE, which my friend said should clear it up in a day, but that didn't work.
Before now I had gotten one about this size once and my pop told me to put BAKING POWDER onto it, which worked and in about a day it was gone. But I tried it again on this ulcer and and it hasn't done much.
After reading come posts I tried SALT too.
They all burnt and felt like they were working but the size of "it" hasn't gone down or anything, I still look like I've been in a fight recently.
I have to go to the city tomorrow and I don't want to go in public with this "thing". It make me feel like shit. I need a quick fix, and fast!!
Someone please help!!!
