I've had an ulcer at the bottom of my gum on the left hand side, its white grey and red, my lip gets rather inflamed and leaves a redish rash kind of thing around it, its so uncomfortable it bares me to eat or drink. I've been using bonjela for 2weeks now and all it does is numbs it for 5seconds. I've also gargled salt water and it done nothing but make me heave! I'm really concerned about this ulcer, i usually get them on my tounge but they're gone with-in 3days, can anybody help!?

I also have ulcer in my mouth from last one week and is slowly healing. I have also not found what exactly can heal it but deficiency of vitamin B complex and biting inside of mouth may cause it. Dilute salt water may help to heal it fast as well as taking some medicine may help to heal.

I've been suffering for ulcers for years now and my mum was the same when she was younger. I would say I've practically tried every over the counter treatment going. Iglu is a good solution for when you need to eat and it's good at lasting overnight too but it hasn't helped the healing. Oralmedic is good if you have only one or two ulcers which aren't too big because is burns the ulcer and seals it, be warned it hurts like hell though. The best mouthwash, doctors recommended also, is oraldene which you need to use frequently. Bonjela cool and liquid Anbesol offer a little relief but it's very short lived.

I've been prescribed hydrocortisone tablets to hold on the ulcer but they're rubbish and don't seem to dissolve at all. Basically I'm still yet to find anything that offers relief and helps to heal.

A couple of tips that are also useful, if you haven't switch to a toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulfate (possibly a misspelling) do it, because this can help stop them appearing - my ulcers appear a lot less frequently thank to this. Try sensodine or boots own brand. Ibuprofen and aspirin can also cause them so avoid them if possible. Some people are also allergic to something in minty chewing gum so this could be another thing to cut out to test.

I have an ulcer on my gums at the back of my mouth on the jawline, it hurts like crazy. Today all I could taste was lead for an unknown reason so I went to the doctors. They told me it was a traumatic ulcer and will clear up in 7-10 days. To help with the pain I'm on panadol and bonjela. And to help remove the ulcer to do a salt water rinse. Hopefully this works. Day 4 of having the ulcer. Day 1 of treatment

You guys have probs. Already tried this but put table salt directly on it. It'll hurt like hell but it'll go away by tomorrow morning. And I don't know if it that's already been said.

I use an old fashioned remedy TCP as a mouth wash three times a day it stings, but seems to work. dilute with 5x water.
I have also used bonjela, but only where I can get at the ulster easily. I have one deep down undr my tongue which is hard to reach so Thats what I use the TCP for.I'm not sure about recurring ulcers in the same place see your Doctor might be vitamin b12 deficiency.

Hi I just wanna know how long does ulcers on the tongue take to heal because I have one that really hurts and another one coming up. Thanks in advance
annie 16 July 13
oh to clarify how you use the hydrocortisone pills you put them onto the ulcer and leave to dissolve from 2-4 times a day every 2 hours depending on how much you need to. ok hope this helps you
rob.m 6 September 12
hi i found that hydrocortisone pills / tablets which i got from my local pharmacy / drug store helped with what was quite a big ulcer after a few days of leaving the pill to dissolve on the ulcer it cleared up i would suggest this.

Iglu gel is brilliant for ulcers! Its hard to get hold of and its about 5 something but it works really well. It covers the ulcer (like an iglu) its a triple action protection and helps too speed up healing time. Its a lot better then bongela x

Have lots of tomato, raw tomato. It helps a lot! If it doesn't work for you, hey... it is just vegetable! No harm!
Ina 3 February 12
i STRONGLYYYYY RECOMEND Dr. tichenors, but be extra careful. If you swish it in your mouth to long it will not only destroy the ulcer but also your whole mouth. 3-5 seconds and a little qtip action should get it done.

I have an ulcer on the side of my tongue that has been there for just on 4 months, I have tried everything including what the doctor has prescribed. I used vit C cream, then an antibiotic gel, neither one worked at all. I am now using a cream which is an antiinflammatory cream and it seems to be slowly, going away.
Gloria in Australia 27 October 11
As stated before, between 1-2 weeks. I've managed to strangle a few of them within a week, by either saltwashing or using a gel (I can't remeber the name right now). My biggest (Which became almost as deep as wide) lasted for almost 3 weeks.

for the past 4 days i am having 4 at the bottom of the upper lip, 4 in my inner cheek 1 on softpallet and 1 each on both sides of my tongue , i usually get them and they will go away on one week leaving no scarring. now this is the 5th day with the existing ones and i hopes it takes the same time, but i am curious about is is there any sign to identify the healing process

I have one, and the warm water and the salt does work for me, i get them alot. It usally takes mine a couple of days to heal, ive had this one for about 5 days, i think it just depends, you cant really tell..
Anja 26 June 11
Ive had a mouth ulcer for a week now and nothing has worked, i tried bonjela and then some clove oil, but that just stang and made my mouth water like mad, after these two treatments i tried rubbing salt directly onto the mouth ulcer then leave it for 5-10 minutes the gargle very salty luke-warm water, the ulcer should start to heal within a nights rest.
Daisy 21 April 11
I have four in my mouth right now, nothin' seems to work, normally they go away within a week but not this time that's for sure.
Sammy 21 February 11
I've had an ulcer in my mouth for about 3 days now. I did the warm water with salt and i gargled mouth wash. usually when i feel one coming that stops it. Well it didn't stop this one. And this has to be the far worst one i've ever had, and i pray i never get one again. What i got to treat this one was Dr. Tichenor's anti-septic mouth wash. Its so strong it almost dries my mouth out and it will make you eyes water. I mean it BURNS. But it works. I was later informed that bc its concentrated you shouldn't take it without diluting it with water 1st. So what i did was use qtips and just apply it directly to the ulcer every hour. That worked pretty well and its been clearing up fairly quickly. its still there but the pain as subsided and i feel it healing. So i definitely suggest Dr. Tichenor's anti-septic mouthwash for them.

Hello there, I know for a fact the some pain killer induce mouth ulcers, especially ibuprofen. Do not take ibuprofen if you are prone to ulcers, find another pain killer. I had an ear infection, it got very, VERY painful so I was forced to go slightly over the recommended dose of ibuprofen per day, I was on about 6/7 and within 48 hours i had 3 mouth ulcers.! It's a common side effect, i do not know about other pain killers but ibuprofen is a nightmare for them

7 weeks now, nothing has helped. Quite large 25x15x10mm. It is in my cheek, my first ever ulcer that I remember of. Very painful. Im gonna try now Gengigel and lysine.
CM 9 November 09
I've suffered with ulcers for years, and about 5 years ago developed very large (30mm) ulcers in my throat that hurt even when I swallow my own spit. I'be been tested for most things (all negative)and have had several biopsies that show ulcers but nothing else. These large ones last up to six months and I've got used to having them even though they hurt like hell and I'm permanently on pain killers. I would agree with Tony, though, you ought to get yours checked out to check and out you mind at rest, but unfortunately large ulcers often take ages to heal and I often have them in places I've had them before with lots of scarring. Hope this helps and good luck.

2 months is much too long. any thing over 3 weeks is wrong, you say a flap. not sure what you mean , is the whitish ulcer there for nearlly 2 months or the gum just feels wrong? the longest ulcer i had took about 3 weeks to go. i have one now day one -----what bliss!!!
tony 9 October 08
I started a thread below but no one answered so thought I would try again lol I had a big moth ulcer on my bottom lip in Jan/feb which went into a little flap but took about 2 months to go. Last month I started with the same mouth ulcer in the same place and its taking a long time to heal again! I have suffered from ulcers for years and worse since my son was born 2 years ago. Is it usual for a mouth ulcer to reacur in the same place and take the same course as b4? Usually my mouth ulcers don't take this long to heal.

Thanks you very much xxx
