I have been fighting this for years now. Been to doctors and dermatologists, told it's caused by vitamin deficiency and malnutrition. One dermatologist gave me trianex .5% and I started brushing my teeth morning noon and night including the corners of my mouth and gargling with listerine. This has really kept it under control. It's barely there. I also take vitamin B, D, and iron.

Just two days ago I yawn and bam, the corner of my mouth split. I was surprised, never happen to me before. I was a little bit worried. What makes it worse is the fact that it happen to the other side today. Something is not right
At first I thought I open my mouth too wide while yawning, but for it to happen to the other side..... Oh no.... Help

If you. Go to Walmart and get cream for cold sores dab some on there and it helps from drying and crusting. Also put some oil of oregano on there . Helps with pain

I too get these cracks in the corner of my mouth. Never had this problem before the last two months, since I was diagnosed with gastroparesis which causes alot of vomiting and then I become malnourished due to food not staying. So I've been told to increase my foods with Iron and B complex. I see my doc on Friday and i am going to ask for a B12 shot and for the natural was with iron I'm going to use my cast iron pans more. You wouldn't believe how fast your vitamins increase just from cooking with them. I will post again after I see doc for any other suggaqua oint instead of vasine

The Triamcinolone acetonide cream started working almost immediately. Not sure how it will continue to work in the next few days but I will try to keep you updated!

I get this sometimes when I eat tomato sauce, like pizza, pasta, juice, anything with tomatoes. If you notice it mostly when you eat these. This is the cause. Now you've heard the cure above.

My doctor told me that spilts in the corner of your mouth, are a sign that you are suffering from depression. Vaseline relieves the pain, and lip, ice . What are folks comments. Has anyone experienced this.

I never had this in my entire life but man, I woke up one morning and my mouth was split. I have an old country doctor that I asked what I could do to get it healed as everytime I bit something big, like a burger, it just keeps re-opening. He wrote me an Rx for TRIAMCINOLONE ACETONIDE. He also stated that most major chain drug stores don't keep it as sometimes the pharmacy has to mix it up themselves. I went to a non chain druggest and he said to dab a little bit several times a day. A little goes a long way. 4 days later it was gone.

Please do not put hydrocortisone on your lips! It thins the skin!

What is vitamin deficiency, is it B2. or B12 ?
I keep getting different messages.
Jas B 28 April 10
Splitting in the corners of the mouth is a sign of vitamin B12 deficiency.

I get these every few weeks and have found just dabbing as often as I can with salty water is great. Start as soon as you notice it coming. A couple of days and they are gone. Better than all the other stuff we end up swallowing.

I have suffered with these annoying mouth splits on and off for years- it is so frustrating! I take b vitamins and have tried hydrocortisone creams. These work to a certain extent but it always comes back. I have just read about the fungal infection being the cause so will try clotrimazole- will keep you informed of the results!

I've had this problem twice in 2 months now! This time I've used 'Bio Oil' in the corners of my mouth before bed and once or twice when I think of it during the day. Seriously, they have healed up in a matter of 3 days!

I have this. Here's the cure - EVERY TIME: apply a dab of "Miconazole 7" cream to corners of mouth several times a day. (This cream is for yeast infections...I get it at Walmart, and it's the Equate brand.) In 2 or 3 days it will be completely gone. It works...I promise!!
Dana Sluder 27 June 09
I've had this too and it can come from thrush in the mouth or staph bacteria and also my mother told me lack of vitamin B. Best cure is either Hydrocortisone 1% or the Canasten cream alright.

LOOK>>>Ive suffered on and off with cracks at the corners of my mouth for a couple of years. Theyre very sore and agony if you yawn and they split open. Ouch!!!!My dental hygenist told me they're often caused by a slight fungal infection and suggested trying a bit of canestan cream. BRILLIANT!!!!! put little bit on, two or three times, (best before bed) and it cleared up and i havent suffered with it once since. Well worth a try!!!

I had a really bad case in high school for a month or two, that went away fairly quickly after I started putting vitamin E oil and bandages on it. I'm starting to get one again so I'm hoping the remedy works again.

Have you tried iodine? I had split corners of my mouth and found liquid iodine helpfull. I think dosing up on B Vitamins helps too.
Adrian 16 August 03
HI I think you need to go on a course of vitamin B Im sure thats what causes the cracks in the corner of the mouth..Keep the corners of your mouth as dry as possible too. Good luck ..

This isnt a cure but it helped me a bit when i had this problem, i just put some, well a lot of chapstick on the corners before i went to sleep, that way it wouldnt wear off from talking or eating and such. It helped me a little. best of luck on healing
