NO ULCERS FOR 7 MONTHS! IíM CURED!!13 messages in this subject.
I have had mouth ulcers for as long as I can remember..never without at least 3 at a time. I am a pensioner now and when I was a child , if I had an ice lolly or a boiled sweet I developed an ulcer. I have tried all things to cure them. Last summer I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and was prescribed sinvastatin, at the same time coincidently I started using a cheap mouthwash once a day after cleaning my teeth. I have hardly had an ulcer since and if one starts to appear it goes within 24 hours.Don't know which it is as I don't want to stop either of them.

For anybody with mouth ulcers, demand a B12 injection to see if it helps. I suffered from mouth ulcers for 5 years and had numerous exploratory tests which were all negative. i had a blood test for pernicious anaemia which was negative. I argued with my doctor and demanded a B12 injection as i was at my lowest ever state, mentally and physically. Within 48 hours i was ulcer free, my quality of life is returning and my desire for life has returned (yes it got that bad). As far as i am aware you cannot overdose on B12 and there are few possible side affects, so give it a go, if it doesn't work you haven't lost anything. Good luck!

I take fish oil because of high cholesterol and can't take ANY cholesterol meds, and I started taking 1000 mg. capsule flaxseed oil and I noticed after about a week I have so many mouth ulcers and sores around my gums, I think it is the flaxseed oil, it is the only thing I have added to my diet. Thanks for the help.

I've had mouth ulcers for 10 months now and have tried all prescritions med as well as all natural supplements to rid myself of this severe pain.. I have 0-13 at a time.... it's hard to eat and I'm wondering if something has been missed with the dcoctors trying to diagnosis my problem. I don't have any intestinal disease, per colonscopy, and all my blood work is within normal range. If any one could give me some advise to help with this I would certainly appreciatiate it.

Hi , my son gets mouth ulcers when he is run down he takes whey protein supplement, could this be the cause?

Ed, was the flaxseed oil in capsule form? Because capsules are made from gelatin and for many people, gelatin can trigger mouth sores.
And thanks for mentioning this, since I take a LOT of capsules of supplements every day, and am now wondering if all the gelatin capsules are making my mouth sores worse!!??

My cholestrol was on the high side at 210, using L-lysine did not cause any increase. It didn't lower it either. I tried flaxseed oil to lower it and after 36 hours I got the biggest and baddest ulcer that I ever got. It healed after about three weeks although I continued to get my normal two or three much smaller ulcers.
Two subsequent test after that got the same result. Fortunately, I found a book, pamphlet, that touted the benefits of flaxseed oil and it had a chart showing the most common cooking and seasoning oils. All of the oils had essentially the same components in varying amounts. However olive oil and safflower oil, you know olive oil is highly touted as being good for the heart, were missing one component that was overabundant in flaxseed oil. That was the fattyacid called alphalinolenic acid.
I stated using safflower oil for cooking and as a dressing for salads with vinegar and lo and behold my incidence of mouth ulcers fell dramatically.
They did not completely go away. Searching the web for nutritional information, I stumbled on nutritiondata.com, a site with nutrition facts for about a thousand common foods that included the amounts of saturated fats, monounsaturated fats, and polyunsaturated fats. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that almost all the foods I ate contained some alphlinolenic acid in varying amounts. Using this information I was able to decrease the amount of alphalenolenic acid in my diet to virtually zero and each time I decreased it the incidence of mouth ulcers likewise decreased. Finally after checking at my health food strore I discovered the protein supplement Whey which has virtually no fats in it. Using whey as a source of comlete proteins including nonesstential one, I eliminated alphalenolenic acid completely and also eliminated mouth ulcers. My cholesterol count also decreased dramatically, I believe that one of the nonessential proteins did that.
There is unfortunately no free lunch, it also turns out that that particular fatty acid is also involved in healing. So I do have some food each day that contains a very small amount of that fatty acid. The upside is that I lost a significate amount of weight and am now maintaing a normal healthy weight. I proably should also exercise.
But I digress, during all of this my small intestine acted funny as if on occassion it was becoming unblocked. My current theory on mouth ulcers is that I have some kind of parasitic infection in my gut, but I don't know what or how to treat it.

#Reply to judy carter - 05.01.08 - tried this for my son who has had a problematic ulcer for some time. Your suggestion worked! AND .. .. believe it or not his skin is almost transformed (after just one week), acne much drier and less red! WOW! Just something to heed - after research into l-lysine .. .. not to be used if your cholesterol is on the high side or you have a heart condition. L-lysine can increase cholesterol in the bloodstream.
THANKS for the advice - it worked for my 25 year old son.

Trust me guys, I'm lucky to have some close relationships with some very good doctors(rheumatologists, internal medicine specialists, thoracic surgeons etc) BUT it was still me that had to suggest the colonoscopy. It's just overlooked as a symptom of Crohns! I had to go to chat rooms, read books, make phone calls, etc to finally come across another case who suggested this. My doctors said it was possible, but not likely. They were surprised with the test results, but treatment was obvious. PLEASE insist on the test. If your doctor would like to speak with mine, please let me know and I'll get you his info.

hey guys, great news...well it worked for me anyway...TRY THIS 1000 mlg of l-lysine(holland and barratt) half price at the moment at just 3 quid for a large bottle, 2 pro-biotic drinks per day and an extra litre of water in your diet and see what happens,
i have suffered for 10 years with mouthfulls of ulcers, as many as 50-60 at any one time, only having a few days off from them per month, i have tried all the prescription medications you can get with not much luck!! i asked a friend who is into herbal alternatives and she said that iím not getting enough good bacteria in my diet, and that l-lysine helps soft tissue repair itself in double quick time, also more water will help flush out unwanted toxins from my body, started doing what she said in november 07, within a week i had no mouth ulcers at all and i havenít had any since....it works..i cant believe it..tomatoes are back in my diet (they are the worse thing ti eat if youíve got a mouthfull of the little ba***rds)..ha ha

I also have Crohnís disease in a mild form. Suffer terribly form mouth ulcers and ulcers in my throat
All my specialist said about the ulcers is to have vitamins. I am on Entocort which is good for the
Crohnís but does not do anything for the ulcers. I will ask about the Remicade the next time I go to the specialist. Thanks for the tip!

Thatís interesting- my doctor was very sympathetic but she said she did not want to subject me to a colonoscopy as I donít have any other symptoms, and I agreed. I might get that checked out....

I suffered terribly for over 6 months with as many as 12 ulcers at a time. After some research I read where it could be a symptom of Crohnís disease. I wasnít have any colon problems at all but i was willing to try anything. I went in for a colonoscopy and sure enough I was diagnosed with a slight case of Crohnís. It turned out to be great news!! I started treatments with Remicade(IV once every 8 weeks) and the ulcers started to go away within 24 hours. Since going on Remicade over 7 months ago , I HAVENíT HAD A SINGLE ULCER!!! Please ask your doctor and insist on getting a colonoscopy.
