As for me the compound negatan- was the best- barr all other and I had tried them all- military 12 years they applied siver nitrate, bp compounds and dozens of other applications- negatan did "hurt" upon application- about one long second- it hurt- but that was the end of it- why did Savage quit placing it on the market-

regarding canker soar I get now once in a while. I use to get them very often. I discovered that I was allergic to Sodium Lauryl sulfate which is in most tooth paste. I now use Jason tooth past and it is free of sodium Lauryl sulfate. I suffered for so many years not knowing why I get the canker soar. I am so thankful that I finally found out the reason. I still would like to have the Negatol for the time I have the canker soar. I will call the 1800 no you listed above and I hope they can help me. Thank you

Negatan or polyphenol sulfonic acid complex is the best treatment for canker sores. I've used it for years. Other dentists refer their patients to me for treatment because you can't find it anymore, and that's too bad.

Why did they take Negatan off the market. It worked better than anything else I have tried.

As recently as November 2009 I found a compounding pharmacy that can prepare this for you or dentists. You can locate a compounding pharmacist by going to http://www.iacprx.org/site/PageServer?pagename=home_page which is the home page for the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists. Hope this helps!

Thanks TomF, it sounds like the same kind of treatment as Debacterol and Oralmedic.

Here is some info on "Negatan". Savage Laboratories seems to be near New York City.

"Historically, intraoral ulcers and lesions were treated with chemical cautering techniques, often involving silver nitrate sticks. These methods involve the use of highly caustic substances to cause a scarring of the ulcer or lesion. These methods all shared the common characteristic in that they themselves caused severe pain in the patients. There was concern as to whether the pain caused by these treatments actually exceeded the pain caused by the ulcer or lesion they were intended to treat. Examples of chemical cautering products include Negatan from Savage Laboratories."

"A particularly useful preparation for aphthous ulcers is one that was once commercially available but was removed from the market by its manufacturer. Polyphenol sulfonic acid complex, which was marketed under the name Negatan, is applied directly to the site. Although it burns when applied, the sore is essentially instantly cauterized, and in most cases no further symptoms are reported. In some situations, however, an additional application is needed."

"Negatan (polyphenol sulfonic acid complex) which works very well for
aphthous ulcers, can still be formulated in a compounding pharmacy. The
professional Compounding Centers of America can let you know of pharmacies
in your area with this capability. Their number is 1.800.331.2498. We have
two in the New Orleans area that often make Negatan for us. I have tried
Debacterol for my patients and it works about the same as Negatan. Both of
these should be applied by a dental or medical practitioner."

You can have it prescribed and a pharmacy that mixes componds will make it for you. Of course the dentist would rather you have him put it on for $30 a pop when you can buy it for $30 a bottle.

Iíve had ulcers all my life, when I was younger the dentist would put this stuff called negatan on them when I had them and was in the office. It burned like an S.O.B. but they were healed the next day, its not available for prescription but if you can find someone who has it, I can attest that this stuff works and works well.
