removal of tongue ulcers

11 messages in this subject.

I have an ulcer right smack in the middle of my tongue. Been seeing an ENT for approx 8 months..2 biopsy..no cancer..TG!...cauterized it 6-7 times..
..and tho the tongue doesnt really hurt..much..it causes pain to radiate to my ear...and my throat. I went to a new ENT today...wonderful doc..she's ordering a CT scan..then wants to surgically remove it. since it smack dab in the middle of my tongue she says its the only way to get rid of it...After 8 months with a dr that has been suckin my bank acct dry...I'm leaning towards the surgery. A pharmacist suggested I take vit. B..and mix half peroxide and half water...swish for 1 min..and dont eat anything for 1/2 hr...do this 4 times a day..for those of you that suffer from
re-occurring ulcers...try it...
I had no idea this was as common as it is...good luck...I think and ENT is what you, David, really needs to have it checked out. I have noticed that when I'm overly tired...it hurts more...

I just had one removed on the side of my tongue that is the most painful thing I have experienced. Them doing it was fine after the numbness wore off it was horrible. I will NEVER do that again.

Giselle.......Yes....removal was to speed up healing since nothing else worked. Little pain with the removal.....and compared to the ulcer......results fantastic. When tongue is given novacaine....ask for the long lasting form <6 to 8 hours>

Steph......Oral surgeon suggested removal. The removal allowed for biopsy. I am now on my 4th tongue ulcer in 6 months. Am treating with tetracycline gargle< break open capsule and gargle> I am getting decent results with this. Went to ENT specialist.....little help there. Be well.

The ulcer I had removed had been there for about 3 months, hence the need for the docs to ”check out what was occuring”.
I do find with it being on the tip of my tongue and it sort of itching, I tend to bite/ rub my tongue against my teeth which subsequently nullifies treatments like Kenacort" target="_blank" onmouseover="overlib('Buy Kenacort from the Mouth Ulcers Shop (opens in new tab)');" onmouseout="nd();" class="mus">Adcortyl, which may work well if you can stand sticking your tongue out for 30 minutes at a time!!
The op I had involved taking out a v shaped piece 6mm across and 15mm into my tongue, then stitching it back up with around 8 stitches.... then making you eat cornflakes the morning after( like cornflakes don’t hurt like hell as it is).. Still piece of mind that it wasn’t cancer!! As well as the gags that you ”speak with forked tongue”etc the whole experience was one i would rather forget..

In 15 years of suffering from ulcers I had never heard/dreamed of removal. Who suggested it to you David? I am getting more and more -although smaller- ulcers on the tip of my tongue, and was wondering: should I be worried about it? (ie thinking cancer)

I also had an ulcer removed off the tip of my tongue for biopsy 14 years ago. It showed no cancer, but unfortunately the ulcers now recur on the site of the biopsy.
Like you I am confused as to the cause, they seem to appear quite randomly. If you get any answers, please let us know..

What a tremendously brave soul you are, The removal, I imagine, was to speed up the healing as well as ”closing” the ulcer, biopsying the tissue and reducing the discomfort. Please provide any co- symptoms/trteatment. Thanks, and best wishes.

In last 7 months I have had 3 ulcers on side of tongue. Two have been removed and stiches used to close. Biopsies show no cancer. I eat mostly fruits and vegetables. Very painful ulcers seem to be worsen with talking, eating drinking. Removal goes smoothly but is becoming a real nuisance. I seem to have dry mouth sometimes at night. Having read much of the entries on this site, I am even more confused. Needless to say, I want an exact answer NOW. Even more needless to say, thats NOT going to happen. Anyone have similar episodes? My oral surgeon is not certain of cause. Am seeing ENT specialist next week. Any guidance would be appreciated.
