Anyone ever get bad head pains with mouth ulcers?

26 messages in this subject.

I have been having severe ear check and head pain with reaccuring mouth ulcers on the roof of my mouth and swollen gums for nearly two years now I've had ct scans ultrasounds been on medication seen neurologist no different still happening so now I've stopped everything tired of spending money with no answers doctors baffled as well trying to help. I have recently asked for a mouth swab to see if they are a cold sore virus related to shingles exct the pain comes first cold air makes it worse itchy scalp but sore to touch then comes the ear pain then ulcers every single month thought it was hormone related but all test results came back normal allergy test normal immune good all bloods tested good otherwise health is great. When it happens all I want to do is sleep and keep warm

I have had unlcers of late on my tongue and now on inside of my cheek which is awful but I have been run down of late and felt tired which has also lead to headaches. I am pretty sure it's been run down that has lead to this so feel I need vitamin supplements and plenty of water. Reading your comments has helped as I am sure the headaches are a fatigue problem and ulcers are something I get when I am stressed or run down so must rest.

I've been going through the same thing here. An ulcer in the back where the jaw line meets. Bad shooting pains through my ear at first then shot up the right side of my face. Hurt to swallow too. I had called the dentist and he put me on z-pack until after the holiday. The pain was so bad that I ended up in emergency. I actually thought it was shingles at first and was scared it would mess up the right side of my face. I have bad scars on the left side because of shingles break out in the late 70's. It also killed the nerve in my face. I am glad to see other people can share their story here. I still have pain in my ear and tingling burning feeling in my lip. I did get pain killers to deal with the pain. I was sent to an oral surgeon to be checked and will be going back Monday for a re-check. I just hope I get all my feeling back in my face again. It's uncomfortable.

i had a really bad on on my tonsils. caused severe pain and swollen lymph nodes. the pain radiated into my ear and the back of my head.
it was really uncomfortable. lasted about 4-5 days and now almost gone. unfortunately i had a terrible migraine on the 4th day, not related but compounded the pain and suffering.

I burnt the top of my mouth and it turned into an ulcer. It's been 2 weeks and it still hasn't healed, the side of my face is really sensitive and been having pain in my ear and like swollen gland on that side of the face and pain on the back of my head. Been taking painkillers and doing mouth washes. Will try and go to docs but not sure if they are open cause it's xmas. Glad am not alone

Yep, a nasty ulcer on the gum at the base of my front teeth has caused a general ache through my jaw and into my temples. Also creates a general though mildish unwell feeling and lymph node swelling. A recurrent or recurrent mouth ulcers are a PAIN!!
TOO much brushing too little brushing???...doctors/dentists no one has a workable solution!! You are programmed to get them or you aren't.
Having said that I have found that regular vitamin and mineral supps do lessen my mouth ulcers and cold sores though the amount of supps required for me to get that benefit exceeds any medical recommendation. So much for all their training!!

Thank God! I was starting to get worried about this but Google brought me here. Got an ulcer right next to an upper wisdom tooth that is angled slightly outwards. Tooth is constantly aggravating the ulcer and its causing pain in my upper and lower jaw on that side, and at its worst can spread to the temple and also give me a headache. Glad it's nothing more sinister. I'll just keep up with the Bonjela.

Hi I have a pain in the back next to my last tooth and its in between the gum and my cheek right in the crease there is a slight raised bit with a yellowish hole like thing and I think it is a mouth ulcer which I got by eating popcorn I think the sharp bit had got lodged in the gum and now it is painful when I smile or talk but also doing nothing hurts I might try bonjella or igloo and take some paracetamol and see what happens I don't really fancy going to the dentist because I know it is a mouth ulcer

I am so relieved to read all these messages. I have had a pain in my face, jaw, ear and one side of my head for days now, and I am convinced it is just from a mouth ulcer in a very awkward place! Right at the back of a wisdom tooth where the gum meets the soft tissue (retromolar trigone). I can't open my jaw either, it hurts to swallow, and my submandibular lymph nodes are swollen and sore... All this from a mouth ulcer?
Not nice for anyone, but thanks all for posting. I know now I am not going mad!

Hello, I've got a fairly harsh looking ulcer at the very back, most narrow (Hard to reach to apply bonjela) part of my mouth above the gum where it connects to the inside of my cheek! It seems to be causing pain that encompases the entirety of the lower left side of my jaw!
I've never had this before and I'm slightly concerned! Is this normal?
Ulcers suck!

Oh my goodness. I have had a similarly placed, large ulcer for 4 days now. I'm in such agony. The ulcer hurts, my lower jaw bone hurts, upper jaw bone a cheek bone hurt and I get the sensation that my teeth are hurting too. I've seen a dentist and she said I'll just have to manage with painkillers and a numbing mouth wash. If it's still there after 2 weeks we will do tests- 2 weeks of this pain and I think I'd be driven round the bend!!

I do get head aches, jaw aches etc. I think there are two causes. One is mentioned above with inflamation of the jaw joint and the other I find is that I unconciously clench my jaw because of the pain. This causes stress in the jaw and teeth and tension in the head. The best I can recoment is to try and relax.
Cheers

yes i feel like i have an ear ache and sometime headaches this is because the were the ulcer is situated it effects some of your nerves

I have had headaches with them before. I asked my dentist, and he said if I get them in the back of my mouth they can inflame my jaw joint. Once thatís inflamed, the jaw pain can turn into a headache.

Yes, I get headaches. But I usually see sores when Iím especially stressed out and run-down, which explains the headaches, fatigue, etc.

I have found I get headaches with them, they just seem to cause me to feel extremely run down in general. I also get ear and throat ache with them somethimes.
As Dom said though you should go back to the dentist as it does sound to be related to having the tooth out. Good Luck
Sumi 7 May 07
Sounds like you need to get back to your dentist for some antibiotics.

I had a tooth out a few weeks ago and the gum now hasa big ulcer on it. The ulcer is right at the top of the gum in the upper jaw at the back of my mouth and every time I smile or move my mouth I get sharp pains up near my temples. Itís horrible.

Has anyone else ever had this kind of thing?

Thanks
Steve
