garlic as a CAUSE of mouth ulcers??42 messages in this subject.
I was just wondering to share some information, actually I am diabetic for the last two years. last month I had my medical tests and my cholesterol was too high. One of my friends advised me to take a clove of garlic early in the morning with empty stomach. I used garlic for a period of one month, my cholesterol level dramatically came down but I have sores on my tongue which were disturbing me. I was just thinking what might be the reason, later I came to know that it was the GARLIC... I believe every thing has pros and cons

I have the same experience. I used to eat raw garlic and it was fine but since 8 years ago I realised when I eat food that contain garlic (raw, cook, powder, sauce) I get ulcer in my throat and I canít sleep from couple of nights because of pain. When I eat garlic which is kept in Vinager for many years and becme soft and black it doesnít hurt me. I have been seen by many consultants but non of them can help me. It is very annoying that I canít eat many food especially starters outside because all contain garlic.

I started eating one garlic clove on an empty stomach every morning as a cure to stomach fullness and general detox.
It worked wonders and the results were visible from day one.
Things got better but after about two weeks, I found ulcers on the inside of my cheeks, gums and mouth.
It was painful and for the record, I have never had any mouth ulcers all my life and I am not under any medication so the only suspect was Garlic.
A random google lookup brought me here and I am pleasantly surprised at the posts here.
Not sure what is the cause as chewing a single garlic clove does cause irritation (burning sensation) in my mouth.
I guess I may have to give up on what was an amazing find or maybe reduce it to once in three days or so.
Thank you for maintaining this forum.

Well i started to eat garlic cloves (chewing the cloves) then seallowing on a empty stomach. I think my mouth ulcer is related to the garlic and burning stinging sensation on my tounge i got hours after eating the garlic?

I came down with a cold recently and a friend recommended eating raw garlic as a natural antiviral remedy. So I went to town with the garlic: chopped them up and sprinkled it on all of my meals. While I think it did shorten the length of the cold, I now have 4 canker sores strategically located in different corners of my mouth for maximum excruciation. After stumbling upon this forum, I'm more confident in my assumption that it was the most likely culprit of my canker sores, since other home remedies I also did (gargling salt water, drinking honey&lime tea, taking vitamin C) don't seem as harmful.

For all you people saying it's not the garlic, it IS THE GARLIC. Every time I eat raw garlic it does this even half cooked with olive oil. I like to microwave mine with butter and salt yum. It won't cause ulcer after you microwave it however it may take away the nutrients and isn't that why most of us who have health issues eat it? You can just chew it up with a mouth full of milk.

StephanieWhy would anyone care what you or Greg think of Dawkins, or his book? You and Greg do not speak on beahlf of any community. It matters, actually, because it is an elephant in the room. The form of cognitive dissonance reduction employed when ignoring Rebecca's treatment of Stef McGraw is rather profound.I am also struck by Greg's original message: but we must move forward. It doesn't seem as though Greg (and others) want to move forward at all.

, and correctly so, a lot of our beiaohvr at her place, and elsewhere, is wrought in that. We're doing what is old hat for the medium: when reason and honest conversation isn't possible, escalate it for the comedy.I know this doesn't fit with that rapist, rape apologist, gender traitor, reprobate meme you're all too happy to perpetuate. This just shows a massive cultural blindness on your part.Odd for a student and scholar' of human beiaohvr and its attendant culture. But, as John C. Welch said when he was DDOS my hard-drive last night, not my farm, not my pig.

there was any excuse? In case you can't reerad the comments in order:You (30): I'm still pissed at Rebecca.Me (31): So?You (33): It's an elephant in the room.Me (36): No, it's not. It gets talked about. You (42): So what's your excuse?Excuse for what? Is Greg supposed to make some excuse for not bringing up McGraw when he recommends Dawkins book despite not being entirely happy with Dawkins? Am I supposed to make some excuse for asking you what kind of stake you have in this instead of telling you're wrong about something when I don't even know what you think happened? If you want to talk about McGraw, by all means, make some point. You've already seen mine because I've been talking about it. Tell us why you feel the need to judge Rebecca and then withhold your almighty forgiveness.

I also get mouth ulcers when I eat garlic. I thought that it might have been for another reason considering that it is antibacterial/antiviral/anti fungal food but as it turns out according to Chinese medicine that garlic can cause too much heat in your digestive system. When your digestive system is inflamed, this causes symptoms in your body, hence the mouth ulcers. This is not to say that garlic is bad for you but if a person is already having digestive problems, garlic can and will make it worse along with other heaty foods such as ginger, peppers, caffeine, sugar, and spices.

I am on medication that causes dry mouth, and I have always been prone to canker sores. I cannot eat garlic, chocolate, or pineapple without issues now. My mouth either gets really dry, tastes like I have chewed tinfoil, or I get a sore from it. They do make a rinse for mouth sores that I got at my local drug store, it works pretty well.

Everytime I eat raw garlic clove, next day I am having mouth ulcer. I don't understand how to eat raw garlic, for its wonderful benefits.
Ashutosh Mahajan 3 January 15
Yes it causes me to get mouth sores. I think onions and peppers do this too among lots of other things. Vinegar does it as well. I also am now researching why every time I eat poultry I get them. I think it is the tryptophan or something like that in it. I am becoming very susceptible to these and seem to only be able to eat plain foods without lots of seasoning that tends to irritate my mouth.

I am currently having mouth ulcer because I have been eating raw garlic to prevent colds. It feels horrible!!! Any tips on how could I make it better? Like gargling something?
Meg 22 February 14
Yes the garlic caused the ulcers it happened to me as well. I ate two garlic cloves by themselves and the next day I had around 7 sores in my mouth. It was excruciating for about a week. Its from the allicin in the garlic. Some people get the ulcers and some don't. I have been eating the garlic clove (one) a week lately to keep ways candida. So far I haven't gotten them again but I do only eat one now and not two and I do take drinks between chewing now , whereas before I didn't. I would take the garlic pills but I LOVE raw garlic so much. :)

I have OLP, biopsy-confirmed, and I don't want to use steroid wash - much prefer the natural ways of healing. In my searchings i have seen several snippets of information concerning the use of garlic to quell OLP. I have only started it yesterday, but it makes my mouth feel wonderful - clean and fresh. I would like to hear from someone else who has used the method i found - crushing garlic, pressing finger in to the garlic to pick up the oil, and massaging gums and all tissue in mouth, then swish and spit. If this sounds familiar to anyone, please send your response.

I was just Googling this because for the past two days I have eaten a clove of raw garlic and now have mouth sores. Pretty sure the garlic caused them. The sores started yesterday. I think garlic causes dry mouth which may cause or encourage sores.

I tried several times the mixture ( garlic juice, ginger juice, lemon juice, and apple vinegar, mixed with equal volume of honey) but forced to stop it because I developed mouth ulcer. After reading similar problem faced by other people who used garlic, I am almost certain that garlic causes mouth ulcer.

My husband developed mouth ulcers after eating garlic too. It has been proved many times.

It may be that the garlic bread has scratched your mouth and itís developed into an ulcer. Especially if itís on the roof of your mouth.
Like many others, I heartily recommend some thinly sliced garlic directly on the ulcer to heal it. It hurts at first but then the pain goes and the ulcers seems like itís cauterized and magically doesnít hurt! Iíve just found this out tonight eating garlic butter! Iím so relieved, my ulcer was on the roof of my mouth between my 2 incisors so REALLY hard to eat anything without catching it.
I also recommend DCL liquorice, it seems to ícalmí the inflammation.

Could just be perhaps that the bread is too rough for your mouth and causes damage which result in ulcers - as I have the same problem with crusty rolls/baguettes. Hope they clear up soon.

I am convince garlic is causing my mouth ulcers. Have only just realised that they occur after a bout of eating garlic bread etc. Has anybody else had a similar experience?
