I also get mouth ulcers when I eat garlic. I thought that it might have been for another reason considering that it is antibacterial/antiviral/anti fungal food but as it turns out according to Chinese medicine that garlic can cause too much heat in your digestive system. When your digestive system is inflamed, this causes symptoms in your body, hence the mouth ulcers. This is not to say that garlic is bad for you but if a person is already having digestive problems, garlic can and will make it worse along with other heaty foods such as ginger, peppers, caffeine, sugar, and spices.

I am on medication that causes dry mouth, and I have always been prone to canker sores. I cannot eat garlic, chocolate, or pineapple without issues now. My mouth either gets really dry, tastes like I have chewed tinfoil, or I get a sore from it. They do make a rinse for mouth sores that I got at my local drug store, it works pretty well.

Everytime I eat raw garlic clove, next day I am having mouth ulcer. I don't understand how to eat raw garlic, for its wonderful benefits.

Yes it causes me to get mouth sores. I think onions and peppers do this too among lots of other things. Vinegar does it as well. I also am now researching why every time I eat poultry I get them. I think it is the tryptophan or something like that in it. I am becoming very susceptible to these and seem to only be able to eat plain foods without lots of seasoning that tends to irritate my mouth.

Yes the garlic caused the ulcers it happened to me as well. I ate two garlic cloves by themselves and the next day I had around 7 sores in my mouth. It was excruciating for about a week. Its from the allicin in the garlic. Some people get the ulcers and some don't. I have been eating the garlic clove (one) a week lately to keep ways candida. So far I haven't gotten them again but I do only eat one now and not two and I do take drinks between chewing now , whereas before I didn't. I would take the garlic pills but I LOVE raw garlic so much. :)

I have OLP, biopsy-confirmed, and I don't want to use steroid wash - much prefer the natural ways of healing. In my searchings i have seen several snippets of information concerning the use of garlic to quell OLP. I have only started it yesterday, but it makes my mouth feel wonderful - clean and fresh. I would like to hear from someone else who has used the method i found - crushing garlic, pressing finger in to the garlic to pick up the oil, and massaging gums and all tissue in mouth, then swish and spit. If this sounds familiar to anyone, please send your response.

I was just Googling this because for the past two days I have eaten a clove of raw garlic and now have mouth sores. Pretty sure the garlic caused them. The sores started yesterday. I think garlic causes dry mouth which may cause or encourage sores.

Garlic is quite well knows as a treatment for ulcers, acts as an astringent and calms down angry ulcers.

I tried several times the mixture ( garlic juice, ginger juice, lemon juice, and apple vinegar, mixed with equal volume of honey) but forced to stop it because I developed mouth ulcer. After reading similar problem faced by other people who used garlic, I am almost certain that garlic causes mouth ulcer.

Hi Sam,
It may be that the garlic bread has scratched your mouth and itís developed into an ulcer. Especially if itís on the roof of your mouth.

Like many others, I heartily recommend some thinly sliced garlic directly on the ulcer to heal it. It hurts at first but then the pain goes and the ulcers seems like itís cauterized and magically doesnít hurt! Iíve just found this out tonight eating garlic butter! Iím so relieved, my ulcer was on the roof of my mouth between my 2 incisors so REALLY hard to eat anything without catching it.

I also recommend DCL liquorice, it seems to ícalmí the inflammation.

Could just be perhaps that the bread is too rough for your mouth and causes damage which result in ulcers - as I have the same problem with crusty rolls/baguettes. Hope they clear up soon.

I am convince garlic is causing my mouth ulcers. Have only just realised that they occur after a bout of eating garlic bread etc. Has anybody else had a similar experience?
