Canker Patch Really Works

I too like most of you have suffered most of my life. I'm 40 now, and they began as early at 6, maybe earlier. I rarely go a week without getting one. When I was younger, I'd oftentimes get the larger mouth lesions (2 at a time), combined with tongue cankers. I feel like I could cut glass with my tongue, or gouge the roof of my mouth with one brisk swipe. As years passed, the lesions stopped, however the tongue canks continued into today. It's comforting in a way to read these stories, and to know I'm not the only poor SOB who suffers like this. Ive always chalked it up to pasta sauce, but it hit me today when I had a sip of red wine... Within minutes of my first taste I noticed a real doozie smack dab bright in the middle of my tongue. Get this?.- I an Italian who gets canker sores eating pasta and drinking wine.... Terrible :(

I used to have ulcers (cankers) my entire life. They would be so bad that they'd cause my lymph node to swell in the same side as the ulcer. I am not kidding, I had them since I was a little girl right up to about 8 years ago. That's when I read that a lot of mouth ulcers were caused by the sodium lauryl (laureth) sulphate used in many (actually, almost all) toothpastes. I figured I had nothing to lose by switching to a toothpaste without SLS in it but it was a bit of challenge back then to fond a toothpaste without SLS (now we have many more products removing their sulphates (a detergent, surfactant really) and using something less harsh because customers are demanding it). Anyways, I found Sensodyne Iso-Active in a can (must be in the can as the dispenser makes the foam, not the harsh SLS that 95% of other toothpastes use). Well that was that! I have not had a single mouth ulcer in 8 years that wasn't caused by trauma and even then, they heal in a day or two. I've only had about maybe 10 ulcers in the last 8 years for any reason. I used to be plagued by them. SLS is proven to be so harsh that it strips skin and after brushing your teeth at least daily and using these SLS products, you cause a break in the mucus membrane. If you have tried everytjing else, but you still use a toothpaste with SLS (even some "natural" toothpastes have it), look for another one without it. I guarantee you that almost all of our mouth ulcers are caused by this ingredient and not some kind of vitamin or mineral deficiency. I'd love to hear how it goes. I think after I started using a toothpaste without SLS, I didn't develop any new ulcers so it pretty much worked straight away for me. The money I save on the super strength topicals, patches, medicines, vitamins (that I didn't need), special mouthwashes, etc, is a bonus but the best thing is not having the severe pain anymore. I hope this helps :) BTW, I never heard them called cankers until I was much older. They were always ulcers to me too ;)

ok thanks for that bryn will try again!
wendy 22 February 07
wendy: you need to be sure the area is absolutely dry before holding the tab to
the ulcer for about 20 seconds

The first product I ever found that gets rid of ulcers quickly is Abreva. It doesn’t seem to work quite as well on the tongue as other parts of the mouth.

I suffer greatly from mouth ulcers. I just recently had a minor operation on my nose to repair a deviated septum. It looks like this has caused a big cluster of ulcers (Canker sores) around my tonsils... I now live in Miami, FL after moving from the UK. I am finding it hard to find things like Bonjela and have been getting friends to post it to me.

I have tried something similar to ”Canker Cover” by Quantum Health and just did not manage to get it to stick. But I will try and find this brand in the local CVS (drug store in the US like Boots).

I am guessing that having a name like ”Canker Cover” this is a US product and my not be found in the UK, but thanks to Dom, you will be able to receive it soon!!

I had never heard of a mouth ulcer referred to as a Canker Sore before I moved here and got very confused when people were looking at me like I had 3 heads when I asked someone at CVS for a mouth ulcer reliever. lol.

P.S. Dom, Thanks for the great site!! It really helps!!

first time i have visited this site and must say found it a great help. My daughter is suffering daily with mouth ulcers caused by dental braces and all they will give her is wax to cover the offending part of the brace. I have bought everything i can get my hands on with nothing helping at all. I know they will always probably recur because of the brace but would just love to relieve her pain for a while. These canker covers sound ideal!!!! can i buy them in the uk??? Even if they just relieve some pain (hate seeing her tears) it will be a breakthrough

Super news... I am now in conversation with Quantum Health, they are very positive, and also have some other products which sound very interesting too.

I have no idea what Boots is. I know you can buy it at most drug stores. I bought mine at Savon.

Can you buy ’Canker Cover’ from any chemist? say Boots?

I originally posted this topic a while back when I discovered the new patches on the market and they worked great. However, since taking a vitamin B12 pill a day, I havent had an outbreak in more than a month. I read posts on how the vitamin might help so I gave it a shot. I normally have at least one all the time ( if not, 2). Since taking the vitamin everyday, I havent had ANY SORES AT ALL! I even have braces and my mouth is constantly irritated and none of the irritation has caused any canker sores! I want to believe its the B12. I will continue to take them and see what happens. For the rest of you, just give it a shot. Buy them at any drug store and start taking them right away. I want to know if any of you have success. Between the B12 and the patches, I think Im on the road to recovery. Or at least a less painful one.

I ran to my local drug store and bought a box of Canker Cover to try it out. I have a humongous ulcer on my let side, right where my last molar contacts the inside of my cheek, and it is horrible. I can barely eat or talk. Well, I must say that I am pleasantly surprised. The thing actually sticks to your ulcer! It really help with the pain, and forms a shield over it. I don’t know if it will actually help to heal my ulcer, but it is most definately helping with the pain, which make it worthwhile to me! We’l see what it looks like/how it feels tomorrow...

Thank you Erin, so far Quantum Health have been ignoring my advances re selling their products in the UK.

The actual name is : Canker Cover by Quantum Health. But lately I’ve seen Orajel come out with something similar. I’ve seen a couple different similar items on the market. I’ve only tried Canker Cover and I was truly amazed. Ive been taking B12. So Im hoping that between the two items, my suffering will come to an end. Or at least be alleviated somewhat.
Erin 15 November 06
Is ”Canker Patch” the name of the product? Do you know the manufacturer?
Dom Walton 14 November 06
This is my first time on this site and I love it. I dont know anyone who gets canker sores. Everytime I mention it, people look at me like I have a contagious disease. Im glad to see Im not alone. Ive suffered from canker sores since about 5 years old. Im now 25 and theyre still ruining my life. I get them when Im going to get my period or when I cut the inside of my mouth. Either way, I always have one. But the other day I came across the Canker Patch (I found it at Savon). At this point, Ive tried EVERYTHING and I am willing to try ANYTHING. So I went home and put it on before bed. It stuck to the sore and releases menthol (it tastes minty) and over time it turns into a jelly-like patch. Its still a great barrier against the sore while you try to get through the day, or try to eat. IT WAS AMAZINGLY GONE THE NEXT MORNING! There was a little redness so I put another patch on to make sure I really got it and after that patch, it was completely gone. I was literally moved to tears because I have searched for something my whole life and this is the closest I have come to something that actually works. Everyone ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO TRY THIS. I passed them on to my brother (who also suffers) and he was amazed too. But I have one question, since people say canker sores are a type of herpe, is there an Oral Medication for herpes that may work for canker sores?? Any info is greatly appreciated and I hope the patches work for everyone like they have worked for me.
