i have mouth ulcers for the past 4 days.I am 43yrs and this is my first experince of having them.Nothing seems to work, i have stopped taking anti-biotics, and salt and water dont seem to do the job. I guess it heals by its self. This is the only way, well for now.Any suggestions?

Jaklyn - If that is true that you have had it for 7 months you need to get to a doc and get that biopsied. They can take up to 6-8wks to heal and they donít worry but any longer and it could be a sign of something a little more severe. BEST WISHES

I just got my first canker sore about four weeks ago. I am 60 years old. I woke up inthe morning with this huge lump on the side of my tongue. I might have bit my tongue during the night or it might just have show up I really canít say. This is my problem, IT WONĒT GO AWAY! I though it was gone after about two weeks, the bump went down the shallow ucler closed up and I was good to go. Thene about a week later it came back in the same exact place on my tongue! Now the ulcerated part is gone but there is still a small indented part on my tongue that it very sensitive. My question is this, How long can these things last? can they reappear inthe same exact place? Should I take some antibiotics I.E. penicillin to help cure it? Iím not in severe pain like most of you, but I just want this thng to GET OFF OF MY TONGUE! Please respond to my email address in case I canít find this again.. I am not to computer literate :( mirage154@hotmail.com

There is a cure....it just has to be found!
Conjunctivitous in the eyes is exactly the same thing...and I rid myself of that after having it for 10 years! Sometimes I couldnít even see it was so bad.

another drug that some docs use to help fight recurrent ulcers is Colchicine. Itís a drug used to treat gout but many who have Behcetís and suffer from recurring ulcers take it and find that it helps. Check out www.behcets.com Best wishes!

Iíve had multiple ulcers down my throat before and it was agonising! Finally, I took the advice of a friend doing her PhD in Pharmacy, which was to drink fresh orange juice. Apparently, the acidity kills the germs. So I bared with the intense pain for a couple of days and was rewarded for that effort :-)
Other old-fashioned remedies are gargling with warm salt water. This helps ease the pain; in fact there is very little pain when you wash the sore with salt water. Normal water from the tap, however, can send you in spasms!
Apparently, there is no cure. You just have to let it heal on its own. The only ĒcureĒ is to stay hydrated and that means drinking gallons of water. Cold water helps more, I find.

Hello,
I am 48 and recently experiencing canker sores. I have gone to my primary doctor and several specialists and no luck. I am very frustrated because I cannot eat. I cannot taste my food. Everything has a metallic taste. I have lesions on the sides of my mouth. When I swallow, it feels like the tissue in my mouth is flaking off. I have tried some many remedies and nothing works. Are there so old fashion remedies that could help me. Thank you for hearing my story.

Prednisone will usually help clear it up. HTH 30-40mg for 6-7days usually you will find relief in the first 24hrs from the pain and withing the next 48 for the actual sore to go away. Best wishes

Iíve had an ulcer in my throat that wouldnít go away for weeks. The Dr said that it had turned into a bacterial infection and put me on antibiotics. It was gone in about 4 days

For as long as I can remember, I have gotten a ulcer here and there- usually if I cut my mouth on something. Lately I have them constantly, never one, usually 5 or so. They hurt, but usually it is tolerable until I got this huge ulcer on the skin that connects the tounge to the throat that is the size of a dime. I have had it for 5 weeks now, and I see no end in site. Is it normal for them to last this long? I went to the doctor for these ulcers and he said it was probably stress and gave me some lidocaine. He did do a blood test, but everything seemed ok. I just want this one huge one to go away, because it hurts every time I talk, and I like to talk.
