infected mouth ulcers

I get mouth ulcers as part of my cycle every three months, always following a particular lay painful ovulation. I am sure it is due to a big oestrogen surge. This is the first time that Iíve had one that I think is infected, the swelling of my lip makes me think thereís infection underneath (that and the pain) will see the dr.

could there be a connection between herpes eye infection to mouth ulcers.

Take L-Lysine supplement pills to help ease the pain and spread of mouth ulcers. If I feel an ulcer developing I take 2-3 pills per day with meals. This doesn't totally prevent ulcers from developing, but I find that the ulcers aren't as big and painful and they go away faster. This trick was told to me by a nurse when the doctor I saw tried prescribing a $50 mouthwash that I couldn't afford.

Guys treatment for the Oral ulcer is - Topical corticosteroids and topical anesthetics / depends on the history Systemic steroids or analgesics - I am not getting it why your practitioner are prescribing you antibiotics that's not an infection. Vist the Dentist and they can help you in case of mouth ulcer.

Can anyone tell me why doctors dismiss mouth ulcers - I regularly get mouth ulcers as I have Sjogren's Syndrome which causes chronic dry mouth. I get a mouth full of ulcers that look red and have a white ring in the middle. I have tried everything but nothing works and they are so painful it is spoiling my life. Do antibiotics help? Also, does anyone know if some vitamins help I have been told that zinc and vitamin b can work. I have tried this and thought it was working but I have just come out with another bunch in my mouth while taking these vitamins. How can I get through to my doctor that this is a serious problem...HELP

I've always suffered from ulcers in fact when I was about 16 I was referred to Guys hospital. But I've never had an infected ulcer. My cheek is swollen, partial numbness towards my nose, pain my gum, teeth and towards my eye. I feel so poorly. Been trying corsdyl, bicarbonate soda, paracetamol, ibrophen and just about anything else you can buy over the counter. Finally decided I would go to docs (after worrying they would think oh just an ulcer) but they have prescribed antibiotics as its become infected.

If it is the same ulcer for a year then I recommend you get back to your GP and insist he examines it, or refers you to someone else to examine it to make sure what it is, an ulcer should not last that long.

I've had a huge mouth ulcer on my lip for a week or so now. The pain became excruciating and so I visited the doctors. She prescribed me antibiotics and a difflam spray as the ulcer had become infected but it can't be very strong stuff as I'm a mid-teen and there's still no change in it's condition. I've tried Bonjela, clove oil and salt water and all it does is deal a stinging pain for a few minutes or so. Is there any rest from these monster ulcers?

Given that a mouth ulcer is an open wound in your mouth, it would probably be prudent to abstain from oral fun until it heals :(

The pain of the ulcers i get are so bad, it's one of the most painfullest things and the worst thing is the pain for me usually lasts for like 4 days, pain killers like paracetamol and ibuprofen never work for me, the pain literally drains me and i feel like crying, i can't move so the best thing is sleep for me, i just sleep for as long as possible on the worst of days, this sounds really lazy but the side of my face usually hurts and aches so much i can't do anything the pain is so unbearable, i wish there was something to treat it, i have tried salty water to wash the bacteria away and this alcohol based mouthwash, it numbs it a bit but then the pain comes back after about 10 minutes i hate it so much!

Mine started with swollen glands and sore throat then by day 4 i noticed spots at the back nd sides of my throat.doctor said it was due to a viral infection and and could only give me painkillers to ease the pain.i had codeine, paracetamol, ibuprofen and difflam antiseptic spray.they eased the pain that night but when i got up in the morning the pain was excruciating.i usually have a high pain threshold but the pain was that unbearable i was in tears.i booked in another appointment and got to see a good doctor who told me some of the ulcers were infected and he gave me phenoxymethylpenicillen medicine.next day was so much better,i feel like i have a little sore throat but nothing like before.if u know theres something not right persist with the doctors coz im on the mend now x

I also suffer really badly from infected mouth Ulcers..they get so bad I have to go to bed with pain killers my whole jaw aches and the pain makes me want to cry. I begged my doctor for antibiotics he reluctantly gave them to me saying they would not work for mouth ulcers..within two days there was major improvement! They are not treating the ulcer they are treating the infection..a normal ulcer will not cause you this much agro..so if you do need pain relief etc you probably have infected mouth ulcers and need antibiotics..

hi there
I had similar and doc gave me DAktarin Gel which worked very quickly, I still get sensitivity to certain things I eat ie citrus etc but this stuff was amazing and my mouth is a lot better, maybe worth a try as it is for mouth infections, thrush etc. Maybe in other countries it has a different name, I live in Scotland.

Watch out for your agonising aphtheous ulcers becoming infected!
Mine did this after about a week. I am 40, never had any ulcers before, thought I had good oral health and then suddenly ... bam!!! ... after a stressful camping trip with the kids I got em! (yeh, should know better - my wife got them too). These proceeded in the way well documented on this site: i.e. one or two initially, coming and going, then persistent and large ulcers spread all round sides of tongue and under tongue. A week later they almost got better and then bam bam !! ... my mouth became even more unbearably painful ... very very sore and sensitive, swollen painful gums, roof of mouth raw and ulcerated, back of tongue and all loose flesh simply on fire with ulcers and pain.
Tried TCP, oraldene, bonjella, gargling with salty water ... all had similar effects: a great deal of eye watering pain first of all and then some relief for a short while. I found Dispersable Aspirin seemed the best for relief.
Doctor intiailly prescribed sterroids to rest on tongue; didnt seem that effective. On second visit he straight away identified an infection and, thank god, prescribed a 7 day doxyclycin antibiotic treatment. Also an excellent mouth rinse called Difflam which does very well to ease inflammation and pain. He also said dispersable paracetomol 4 times a day would be better for me than aspirin which can lead to stomach ulcers!
Anyhow, 3 days in (off work - cant teach with these) and my mouth seems to be on the mend a bit .. still canít eat anything without serious discomfort and I do need painkillers occasionally but today seems better.
I hope this is a help to anyone who may also get infected ulcers. I am not sure how to avoid them but be assured there is a treatment.
I will wait and see if the ulcers return as before.
