I have been getting cold sores since I was 4. And they last for weeks. Now the minute I feel one coming I take 2000 lysine. Tonight I took 3000 because it popped up so fast. Within an 2 hours soreness is gone. Stops it growing. Good chance it will not even be noticeable in the morning. I also use topical lysine. Itís lke a miracle to me.

L-Lysine oral supplement and Vanilla extract for topical. If you have Almond, it works the same for me. It stings a little, but I've found it helps. I apply the extract as soon as possible and do it twice a day. And the Lysine I have only just started. Over time I can comment more on that as I have not used it enough yet, but I've heard wonderful things for acne and for cold sores.

Hey I am 16 and i have experienced getting cold sores/ fever blisters since I was 3-4. They're really annoying, embarrassing and uncomfortable! I HATE going anywhere if I have an outbreak bc I feel like everyone is looking at me, not to mention um EW. Lol. But anyways, I wanted to ask if there were possible allergic reactions from Lysine? I've just got a tube of lysine ointment/cream to put on the infected area, but I also got the Lysine supplements as well...I get freaked out easily trying me medicines & I was wondering if there was a possible allergic reaction? I haven't taken one yet bc I'm scared of that happening lol it might seem a little dumb but it's a concern I have 😅

It keeps with a rash on my scalp. I can only tolerate 500 mg a day. When I took a 1,000 mg, it gave me headaches.

I've gotten cold sores on my lips since I was at least 4-5 years old, I'm 29 now. As a kid I got 1-2 at least 4 times a month. My mom was really sick while pregnant with me. Now days I don't get them very often, but I have noticed, when I start getting sick, it's as if this is what I get when my body is fighting really hard. I'm guessing instead of getting sick, I get the stupid cold sore instead (oddly enough I currently have 2 HUGE ones on my lower lip on the right - super swollen today). Stress also triggers it from time to time as well. I can say Lysine is AMAZING and truly works. I normally only take it when I feel one coming on and it helps the pain as well as shortens the time I have it. I've also noticed, if I take Lysine within a few hours of feeling one coming on, it will go away. All the other medications our there are worthless! So take it from someone who has dealt with this all their life - TAKE LYSINE! I do about 2000mg - 3000mg when they are really bad like today.

I get cold sores all the time and the Lysine has really helped. I haven't been getting them for awhile by taking 1000mg a day. Sometimes I will take it only a few days a week though which is still working. I recently just forgot them over a girls weekend where we would be drinking all weekend which drinking and no sleep always brings them out so when I got back I started taking them right away and started taking 2000mg and I seem fine with the 2000mg and they have been healing a lot faster and not as painful. Also my doctor told me it was ok.

It works topically too. For mouth soars try also sucking on a 1000mg tab in addition to taking a few orally.

Taking Lysine also helps with building protein, which helps build collagen, so not only does it help mouth ulcers, I usually take up to 4000 units a day, 2000 at a time, when I get one, it helps keep the connective tissues together so you age better.

I took my first 3000mg of Lysine yesterday and I must admit that I do feel a little better today. I am also using Soothagel and TCP rinses during the day - taste aint great but at least they seem to be abating somewhat. Here is hoping that they are on the way out. They certainly are not gone yet and still a little sore but I am able to talk today without being in excruciating pain which has to be a step in the right direction.

I went to the Oral surgon a few months ago when I was having a really bad episode, he recomended the L-Lysine. He instructed me to get the 500mg. pills and take 4 times a day (meaning 2000mg). Hope that helps anyone that is curious about how much. He also told me to start taking them the second you start to feel that little tingle, that it doesnít help to heal them only make the pain go away. Just some Info that I had got :-)

Hi all - It is an honour to be the first male to post on this thread. I too ventured out and bought some Lysine today and am going straight for the 300mg a day dosage and see what happens. Suffered a nasty fall the other week and bit my tongue as I went down - now I have 9 ulcers on the tip and sides of my tongue and I am in agony. Here is hoping it works - also using the gels etc and trying my best to gang up on them all at once.

ok, so yesteraday i took 2000mg, but it reccomends 1000 on the pot, but some of you have taken 3000! is that safe? there hasnt been much improvement yet despite the salt and lysine, so im looking to take more of it. is this ok? has the person who took 3000mg expirenced any side effects or anything? did it help? thanks!

Well, I know itís early days on the Lysine but I am definately feeling a little more comfortable today; earache and teeth have settled down..so far so good!! My tongue is still burning and I am a bit scared there are more on the way.. So i really hope that Lysine will be the answer and stop the beasties in their tracks...I wonder how close the scientists are to a cure???...Are they looking??? I am pleased to have found this site but angry and more than a little frustrated that so many people are suffering in this way...Kind regards jane

Thank you Gayle. I will be trying this as of today. I usually start with 1000mg as soon as I wake up, and I will add another 500mg at lunch, as well as at bedtime. Hopefully something happens soon, as I am in a particularly bad breakout. My lips are so swollen, I look as though I have had collagen injections!!

Angelina, when I get really bad ones I take up to 3000mg a day!! No adverse affects yet! Then I take 1000mg every day when I donít have any as a preventative. Am no expert though so canít confirm if that is a safe dose.
Gayle 7 February 06
Amanda- How many milligrams per day are you taking? I have suffered with mouth ulcers for the past 14 months; 3 weeks with them, 1 week without, all month. I have been taking 1000 milligrams a day, but I have read here that some are taking 1500. Is there a safe dose that you know of?

Thanks, Angelina

This is my second time with an ulcer on my tongue, no idea what triggers them. Both my parents are in medicine and said there is nothing you can do besides treat the symptoms with topical gels until they go away. Frustrated, I got online and found this site and tried the L-Lysine remedy...within 36 hours the ulcer was GONE! It had been there for 3 days and I was barely able to eat or drink b/c of where it was located on my tongue. I am SO thankful for the advice and I am SO sympathetic to all of you who are plagued with these things. Thank you!! TRY L-LYSINE!!!
