I wrote on this site a while back about how great cranberry juice was and lately i have got loads of ulcers even though im still drinking cranberry juice like its going out of fashion!!. Then i remembered that a while ago i bought colgate as it was buy one get one free(yes im cheap!!)and i have suffered ever since....i feel like maybe that i will see the light at the end of the tunnell again if i go back to my regular macleans and keep glugging the cranberry juice!!!!
Thank you for sharing that Michelle!!!

I don’t usually use colgate and suddenly a few days ago I decided to try out Colgate Oxygen. The next day I had a big mother ulcer on my tongue with a few under the bottom lip and 1 under the top lip. So I’m staying away from Colgate.

Most toothpastes contain SLS - Sodium Lauryl Sulphate which is a foaming agent. If you look at you hair shampoo you’ll see that it is probably in that too! I’ve also found it in an engine detergent! Basically, it can cause an allergic reaction - ie mouth ulcers. Everyone in here raves about Squiggle toothpaste as it is SLS free but I use Sensodyne Whitening as this doesn’t have it either.....though if you read the back of the box, they all list the nasties in the paste so get reading!! Hope this is of some help.

Thanks for the information about using colgates. i do and have an ulcer on the roof of my mouth so no more colgates for me. for canker sores on the lips ABREVA is great.

I’m so glad I found this message board. I have been suffering with a couple of ulcers under my tongue for a week now. I get one, or a few, a couple of times a year and I have used Colgate since I was a kid. I never associated these ulcers with toothpaste before, but I’m going to try something new immediately. Thanks for the info!
Elaine 28 September 05
deffinately no toothpaste with sls,its a real
nasty.Lucy are you sure about Sensodyne?
Bill 28 September 05
Some Sensodyne is OK, I used to use it myself before Squigle - you have to check the label carefully some has SLS in it, some doesn’t - I think the original pink one is OK, but, it also changes from one country to the next too. SLS is a horrid industrial dirt cheap detergent, you really don’t want to put it in your mouth.

I been using Colgate toothpaste 2 wks since my friend gave me a brand new tube. I had been using pepsodent for years. OMG suddenly, I have clusters of painful ulcers under my tongue and the back of the roof of my throat! so painful and now I know why! Colgate is in the trash thanks to this old message board. I am using chloraseptic spray and lozenges to ease the pain...

argh can't believe it's the goddamn toothpaste. i have tons of colgate and never had this problem before with mouth ulcers except for rarely. this past month however, i've had two incidents of very painful ulcers on the side of my tongue, some on each side. i will be switching to another toothpaste... guess it doesn't help that the tube i'm using is expired :x
samsam 7 January 12
My dentist recommended Retardex which does not have SLS. It's a bit more expensive but u can get it in boots on the 3 for 2 offers.
Edel 9 January 12
I've just been recommended oranurse which also doesn't have any SLS and it doesn't have any flavour either so no more feeling like my mouth is on fire.
Chris 16 January 12
Colgate has a new foaming clean toothpaste. Bet it's extra full of SLS for the foaming effect. Used it and now have a persistent sore on the tip of my tongue. Thought I was eating too many sugars but will try eliminating this new toothpaste instead.

I bought the new colgate total advanced whitening a month ago, usually used sensodyne. Within a few days I had a very sore mouth, went to GP who advised blood test as though it coiuld be B12 deficiency. Never thought it could be toothpaste!! Went away for a few days and used another toothpaste, sore mouth felt better, thought the B12 injection had helped. But once home and using colgate again, mouth came up in lots of Ulcers, back of throat very sore. Went back to GP, again I hadn't put 2 and 2 together, another blood test, then my sister called me to say had I thought about toothpaste as she bought colgate on a 3 for 2 offer AND HAS ULCERS!!!! Found forum really helpful thanks.

I've been using Colgate toothpaste for several years and regularly got really painful mouth ulcers. Since my mom started buying another brand of toothpaste, Sensodyne, I never had a mouth ulcer again; however I never associated Colgate toothpaste as being the cause of my mouth ulcers until last week. Last week, in fact, I went on a five-day trip. To be ligther and save extra space in the bag I picked a travel-size Colgate toothpaste. As I was back from the trip I started to feel a huge mouth ulcer developing on the inner side of my chick. I am quite sure, now, about the cause of my much hated mouth ulcers. I won't use Colgate toothpaste again.

I have reoccuring cankers and sores on my tongue and throat. I am currently using sensodyne and colgate so I will switch and see if this helps. Thanks for the advice.

I recently ran out of Crest 3D White rinse (used for about a year) and bought a bottle of Colgate Optic White (drug store out of Crest). Within just a couple days use of the Optic White my mouth began to feel dry and irritated. A couple of more days and I developed canker sores inside my upper and lower lips. I never experienced this with 3D White. I'm 51 and have never had canker sores like this before. Nothing has significantly changed in my life, so I have to contribute this to using a Colgate product. I've discontinued use of any product as the pain is too great to use them. Bummer....

OMG! Glad I found you lot! My mouth has been in agony the last two weeks, and guess what I did two weeks ago!? Changed my toothpaste! I was originally using a Colgate brand, but I changed to Colgate Whitening Advanced. My doc is soooo confused. going back tomorrow to tell her what I think.

I had a horrible reaction with reddened sore puffy gums, mouth on fire...I finally figured out it was the toothpaste and threw it away! A few days later I was fine.

I personally use Aquafresh toothpaste but when I sleep at my boyfriend's house I use his Colgate Optic White brand and as of lately I have developed numerous swollen, extremely painful mouth ulcers that are affecting my speech. So happy to have found that the cause is SLS and that it can be avoided and that there is not a greater issue of vitamin deficiency.

Has ANYONE that got ulcers from Colgate Optic White ALSO lost their sense of taste, lost weight because they couldn't eat, and lost some sense of smell also?? I'm so worried about my husband. The ulcers started a few months ago, then spread on both sides of his tongue, inside both cheeks, and behind the last tooth in the back around his gums. He's not the type to go to the Dentist or Dr. unless absolutely necessary. He's lost 15 lbs. in a month at most. How long does it take to heal and what has helped you? This message board saved him from continuing to use this TRASH !! HEPL PLEASE!!

I too have had problems with several of the whitening toothpastes causing a sore mouth....sensitive tongue and blisters. Once I stop using the toothpaste, the problem goes away. What is the ingredient they all have in common that causes this?
Pam 25 March 13

I used Colgate total clean mint for the last year and a half. I have and had a sore throat, sluffing of the tissue inside my cheeks, mouth ulcers, and bumps on my uvula. i did not know what was causing this. The toothpaste is very minty and gives you fresh breath for hours. However, once I quite using Colgate a went to aqua fresh all my symptoms went away.
Meg 5 April 13
I was using a new toothpaste (yes Colgate which was on offer) and after just 1 week I had a sore throat, numerous canker sores in my mouth, under my tongue, on my cheeks, inside my lips. Felt really miserable as it hurt to talk and to eat. Those are my 2 favourite things in the whole wide world so... anyway I took a multivitamin for 3 days and by the 3rd evening all the sores had gone??!!! I don't know whether that toothpaste just aggravated some other problem or what but I switched back to Oral B Complete toothpaste and have been fine since....
Davina 5 April 13
Thank you so much for these replies. I have had terrible problems with the inside of my mouth, the skin peeling off the inside in the mornings and really sore, I had a feeling it was the toothpaste but couldn't really get to the bottom of the problem.
I also have a cough that is just throaty and thick saliva. Been to the Docs several times and had several courses of antibiotics and x-rays. Got a feeling the source of this problem is the toothpaste.

Sensodyne has SLS in some but not all of it's products.
Sore Mouth 24 April 13
Kind of ironic that Sensodyne Repair and Protect lists SLS as the 5th ingredient, antifreeze is no 2. Damned mouthfull of ulcers, not what I'd call repairing and protecting.
Katy Meek 24 April 13
If by anti-freeze you mean PEG, then that refers to Polyethylene-glycol which is different stuff to Ethylene-glycol which is toxic and was used as anti-freeze (and probably still is). Certainly, having SLS in your mouth certaily doesn't sound very "protecting" to me though.

Phew - I thought it was just me. I have used Colgate Total for years without any problems but decided to try the new Colgate Optic White toothpaste to brighten my smile up. It certainly helped to do that, but it also left me with really sore lips, especially the inside of my bottom lip - I was starting to think I might have been biting it during my sleep without realising it or have something horrible like mouth cancer it was hurting so much. I tried putting paw-paw ointment on it but it's really hard to get topical ointments to stay on anything inside the mouth. I tried to think of anything different I had been doing or eating lately and the only thing I could come up with was the Optic White toothpaste. I stopped using it and went back to Total - after a couple of days the problem was resolved.

Been suffering with swollen gums and sores in my mouth and on my tongue for a week. Got to the point I couldn't eat anything. Made an appointment to see family physician. She wrote a prescription for a couple treatments to sooth the pain while we prepared to evaluate the situation for a few more days. Local pharmacy did not have the product so I made a special 50 mile trip to town to get the prescribed medicine. My dentist's office is within a few blocks so I stopped there in an act of desperation to see if he could see me unannounced to help diagnose the problem. Staff could see the pain written all over my face and took me right in. Upon examination the dentist was aghast at the site of the sores in my mouth. After just a couple of minutes discussing the process of elimination of contributing causes he asked about toothpaste. After speaking with my wife over the phone about brand and ingredients he promptly told us to throw it away. The connection made sense. The proximity and extent of my affliction was the same area covered while brushing my teeth. I was in pure agony for a week. Managed to lose a couple pounds in the process. Has been only 24 hours since I last used the subject toothpaste and my mouth is already on the mend. If I hadn't made the special trip to town and stopped by the dentist office on the spur of the moment there is no telling how much longer I would have suffered from the excruciating pain. I can't believe Colgate is allowed to market that crap! I look forward to eating again in a couple days.

i used colgate total advanced and within 24 hours my mouth was full of ulcers..as a result i can no longer use mouth wash or throat lozenges..ihad to get prescription drugs for the pain..i stick with aqua fresh doctor said different ingredients..

I've found this by Googling and it confirms what I was thinking. My lips are dry and swollen and sore on both the inside and outside and I couldn't think why, then I remembered some Colgate whitening toothpaste was on offer in Asda so I bought some. The inside of my mouth is OK but I always rinse with mouthwash so I'm thinking that's why only a bit of it is sore. I'll pinch my daughter's Aquafresh for a couple of days and see if it clears up. Thanks.

I have suffered with ulcers all my life and generally didn't get through 3 months without having at least one ulcer. Sometimes I had multiple ulcers at a time for weeks. Then about five years ago my wife found this site and suggested I stop using Colgate toothpaste and to start drinking Cranberry Juice daily. In the last 2 years I have maybe a ten ulcers and on both occasion I had a cold and was run down. I was sceptical at first, but I really through my own experience and perseverance have built a better immunity with the Cranberry juice and using Macleans toothpaste. I find now even if I was to bite my gum I still get an ulcer, but the duration of having the ulcer and pain has reduced. Thank you to all those people that shared this, you have provided me with so such great relief.

Over the last few months I've had what I thought was eczema (as I do get little patches now and then) around the right hand corner of my mouth. After two trips to the Drs and three prescriptions which didn't help a whole lot I wondered myself if it was toothpaste linked. Being that I don't tend to brush my teeth like people on ads or in the movies and you get a bit of foam leaking out, as a right handed brusher I realised it was on that side of my mouth. So I changed my toothpaste and lo and behold the five/six month problem appears to be clearing up. Only now that I google a certain brand do I find this and wish I'd found it earlier as it was Colgate Total I was using and Aquafresh I've now switched to. Has anyone else had problems outside their mouth as well as inside or am I the only messy brusher?!!
Elaine 24 June 13
Elaine, perioral dermatitis is what it is called, and yes it can be caused by toothpaste. It is not that uncommon, and seems to affect women more than men. Probably caused by the SLS.

I've long been prone to mouth ulcers, but when ET (essential thrombocythemia) came on I seemed to get them more frequently and the consultant said that it was a known side effect of my hydrocarbamide treatment. More recently my dentist prescribed Duraphat 5000 high fluoride, for the rest of my years (I'm 86). I came across on the internet 1996 trials:

http://www.health-report.co.uk/mouth-ulcers-sodium-lauryl-sulfate-effects-toothpaste.htm.

Colgates say they know of no adverse SLS trials. There seems considerable interest in this in the States, and several products have gone SLS-free. I've just suffered another painful week, particularly eating and swallowing, as it was under my tongie as well as lips. The Duraphat 5000 is prescriptio only, so how they get a product licence (in 2006) when it contains a known deleterious agent I don't know. In my job I wouldn't have been able to overlook a report such as this, for fear of the safety of the industrial plant. We have a Colgate research facility here in Manchester linked to the University, and I have approached them about this. I've suggested to the ET support group attached to Guy's Hospital that they raise the matter with their dental section. I'm not prepared to take the risk, in view of the report, and have found that the Sensodyne range is SLS-free allthough it also carries other agents for particular problems. I know that some manufacturers use a different formulation imother countries. We have a discount store which gets surplus stock, and often has toileteries destined for other countries, which my wife notes are substantially different.

I used colgate total whitening toothpaste for 3 wks when I realized my gums were inflamed, the sides of my tongue were raised and the tip of my tongue was red, its been two months since I have used the toothpaste and most of my mouth is doing ok but I still have one side of my tongue that has a bump on it and it feels weird as well as the skin inside the front of my mouth still feels a little ulcerated, I only use baking soda once daily for brushing and a salt water rinse twice daily, not sure how long this is going to take to completely go away, and if someone has any suggestions would greatly appreciated

I started using colgate whitening about ten days ago... have gotten the worst mouth ulcers i've ever had, lost my sense of taste and feel terrible. Didn't even cross my mind it could be the toothpaste! Going to stop using it and let you know how I go. I just hope it fixes up quickly!
Melissa 5 October 13
Colgate total advance whitening was on offer at local supermarket two for £4. This last week I've had awful painful tongue ulcers, sore throat and swollen gums! I can't eat, drink, talk properly and have difficulty sleeping. I'm taking the toothpaste back tomorrow to see what they have to say about it. Spread the word everyone please! There should be an inquiry into this barbaric product!

I have had the most painful mouth ulcers of my life this last week. I couldn't even sleep, they hurt that much. I was looking for a natural form of relief and saw that someone said to stop using Colgate products. I had recently begun using Colgate whitening toothpaste. I am horrified that this has happened to me and will stop using it immediately. Many thanks to all who posted!

My wife bought Colgate whitening tooth paste, and both me, my wife and my eldest son all have ulcerated tounges. Hard to eat, no taste. Tounge covered in white and yellow ulcers. Going back to Aqua Fresh.
Jonny5Hill 24 October 13
I've been using colgate total paste for years and years. (as far back as I can remember) and this week when I opened the newest tube, I began getting little ulcers on the roof of my mouth. I didn't figure out what was causing it, at first. Then, I realized that after I brushed my teeth before bed, I was laying in bed feeling like I'd brushed my teeth with Vicks vapor rub and thought "whoa, that's never done that before" so I stopped using the toothpaste, got a new toothbrush and switched to the aqua fresh my husband uses. I also started using mouthwash and warm salt water to relieve the pain in my mouth. It hurt so bad I thought my teeth were going to fall out. The minute you notice anything out of the ordinary, look at the obvious. Throw away the colgate!

I had dermititis and mouth ulcers when I used this for a month
Symptoms stopped after I switched toothpaste.

Stumbled upon this website when trying to find OTC Debacterol. I've suffered several years from mouth ulcers caused by dry mouth from my medication. My dentist prescribed Colgate Prevident 5000 For Dry Mouth which is SLS free but contains much more fluoride. It did reduce the number of ulcers, however I developed what I thought was eczema around my mouth and chin, hydrocortisone didn't help, so then I figured they were spots. I suffered two years with what I thought was adult acne and finally went to dermatologist in November. I had perioral dermatitis. She mentioned I should think about changing to a toothpaste that is fluoride free as there is some theories it may cause or exacerbate the condition. It took a while, but I found a toothpaste that is both SLS and fluoride free. I'd recommend removing SLS and fluoride especially for women suffering ulcers to reduce ulcers and risk of perioral dermatitis.

Forgot to mention the brand of toothpaste I found that is SLS and fluoride free. It's called Jason Natural and is available in the UK.

I switched to Colgate optic white about 3 days ago and noticed that I had a small little bumps/ulcers on The outside of my upper lip. After freaking out like the hypochondriac that I am. I calmed down and considered the switching of the toothpastes. Then I googled "can Colgate toothpaste cause ulcers" and it makes 100% sense that a handfull of people have the same problem as me. No more Colgate for me. Or any harmful products at that. Thanks everyone.

Wow I used Colgate optic White for a few weeks started to have a mouth ulcer form right at the back of my mouth i switched back to normal total 12 hrs Colgate today see if it helps me not get any more, it whitened my teeth but omg ow it hurts I'm going to tell my dentist see if he recommends a good tooth paste because mouth ulcers suck, I'm going to do my research because I don't want anymore mouth ulcers this sore again.
Jill 29 March 14
Wow. Have also been dealing with new onset of mouth ulcers ever since I tried the new product Colgate has. It's the one where the whitening paste fits inside the toothbrush so you can brush then apply the whitening paste to your teeth without the hassle of strips or mouth pieces. I was amazed at first by it and saw immediate results and recommended it to my friends and family. But I have been suffering from numerous mouth ulcers. I'm miserable. They hurt so bad. Can't eat, can't talk. So thank you all for sharing your stories with this Optic White line. Never again.

Few months back I started to use colgate visible white.. This has cause me severe mouth ulcers.. I thought it was due to other health problems and switch to regular one for some time.. The ulcers were gone within a week.. Then again I tried to used colgate visible white.. AND had to conclude that my ulcers were from the use to COLGATE VISIBLE WHITE ONLY.. Now i have shifted to regular one... NO COLGATE from now on.... better to hve coloured teeth than ulcers...
Seram A. 5 July 14
I started with bad mouth ulcers about two months ago and suspected it might be the toothpaste! Having read all the posts I conclude it is as the new toothpast I have been using is COLGATE. I have been getting several ulcers on my bottom inner lip, under the tongue and cheeks, so very painful and as others have said, makes it difficult to eat or drink. Off to the dentist tomorrow armed with the facts from this site to see what she says. Not sure which toothpaste to buy now, but will look for one with no SLS.

Yes some colgate are no.t good at all,i v stated using colgate gel now i'v got an alcer bottom of my lipe nd its killing me i cant even eat, talk even to :)smile

I started using Colgate Optic white a couple of weeks ago. It was brightening my teeth but I began to get ulcers in the top of my mouth. The only change I have made was the toothpaste so stopped using it immediately. Been battling the ulcers for over a week now. There are getting better but have not gone away. Don't buy this product it is dangerous.

Have a mouth full of ulcers after using Colgate Total Advanced for 5 days. Very uncomfortable, difficult to eat. Just ordered SLS free, Triclosan free touthpaste from Green People. Hoping that will solve my problem. Hope Colgate read this thread. Will tweet and distribute this page as far wide as I can.

Has anybody felt like their lips are on fire! Become red, almost purple at times. Constantly dry and peeling! No relief.... BURNING TORTURE!! Seen more than a few docs. NOBODY can figure this out. Maybe it's the toothpaste?!?

Had a strong inflammation of the throat, my ent was suspicious because i did not react to antibiotics and antiinflammatory drugs. Went to an expensive mri , they found nothing except the left side of my tongue swollen. After changing ent, i realised that the cause was the use of colgate total product. I thought i was alone to react to this poison but after extensive research i realize that the victims were numerous. These companies do not hesitate to use triclosan or dangerous components and represent a real danger for us. The fact of making money does not mean that you are not a public ennemy.

Hi, had the same burning sensation when brushing my teeth with Colgate, started getting cracks in my lips and Labello could not even remedy the issue. Had a strong feeling it's the toothpaste, changed to Sensodine and used Labello for cracks... Lips healed completely, no burning anymore when brushing....
Riccardo 14 October 14
After coming on this site I learnt about SLS in toothpastes so switched from Colgate to Sensodyne (and now a cheaper SLS free paste from LIDLs).
I no longer get ulcers. I was getting Ulcers regular and now I haven't had one for months since I changed.

For a year and half Ive had rash, numbness, and tingling on the right side of my face, as I am right handed and also dribble towards the right. I've been to several doctors and had numerous blood test run. Even has to have an MRI on my brain because doctors. No doctor could tell me what was wrong. I finally found this website and stopped using Colgate Optic white. Symptoms started about a week of using. It has been a week since I stopped and symptoms are going away.

Nov 2014. Used Colgate total lasting white mouthwash and my mouth is on fire! I was up till the wee hours because the swelling was so bad I was afraid my throat would close off. This is a chemical burn, not an allergic reaction.
sharon 29 November 14
Wow, for months now the top of my mouth, just behind my teeth, has been so irritated and sometimes my tongue has a burning sensation and I have a slight and constant soar throat …. I have been using Colgate Optic White!! Cheap and my teeth are super white. But the pain is not worth it! Getting rid of it…I was on the internet trying to find reasons my mouth hurt and now I think I know! Thank you everyone.

I was recommended colegate pro relief by my dentist and after a period of time using it my gums became very inflammed and painful. I was blaming my steroid inhalers but as soon as I wnt back to sensodyne my gums started to improve and although it's only 3 days they are so much improved and the pain has gone
Yvonne Minnette 22 December 14
after only a few days of using colgate optic white, the chemicals burned off the flesh from the roof of my mouth. Into the garbage it goes!!! Will use a natural toothpaste from now on. Forget the marketing crap!

Thank you very much everyone for useful info. I also suffered with white tongue ulcers for nearly 9 months and I didn't know what was the problem. Many times when l go out with my friends for meals, l could feel the burning sensation on my tongue. So at first I thought it was a reaction from the antibiotics which l had. I went back to my GP more than 3 times & with re occurring tongue ulcers .suprisely all the prescribed medication didn't work. I went for blood tests & nothing was found either. So one day I realised that the the ulcers got dissappeared within a day after using certain tooth paste. So afta a week l used another tooth paste & within a day they came back. So that's how I came to realise that it was certain tooth paste causing re occurring ulcers and today I have jus read all the info & l strongly believe that colgate is causing major problems therefore a research should be carried out ..

My wife also developed a very large and extremely painful mouth ulcer within a day of using Colgate Whitening toothpaste (she had run out of her usual Sensodyne). The Colgate has now gone in the bun! For goodness sake, Colgate, how much more evidence doo you need before you do something about this? Some of these posts have been going on for YEARS!!!!!!!!!

I have had ulcers on the sides of my tongue in the past and after reading other peoples experiences with Colgate Whitening I stopped using the product and straight away the condition cleared up. I had used Colgate whitening for many years and had many years of discomfort, but after worrying and then searching I realised that it may be to do with said product. I have tried Colgate regular and Sensodyne and have had no ulcers since.

rickyyy,
Try to find a toothpaste that is free from SLS (Sodium Laurel Sulphate), this detergent is known to cause irritation and mouth ulcers.
Rob 7 May 15
Had severe problems with swollen lips and many ulcers inside my lip, my lips looked like a had bad plastic surgery they were so swollen and extremely painful. Luckily I was due to visit my Dentist (My doctor had no idea!) and straight away she told me to stop using Colgate - I switched to sensodyne Extra Fresh and have been OK every since - definitely allergy to the SLS in most toothpaste.

Hello Guys, is the colgate plax mouthwash helps the canker sores heal? I'd read the bottle and it has no burning sensation. does that help to heal sores in the mouth? I'd use lesterine and DANG it! it burns like hell, so I quit using it and switch to colgate plax mouthwash. a reply to this message would be great. thanks :)
Melckem 4 June 15
Melckem, I don't know about 'Colgate Plax' but I have very good experiences with a Chlorhexidine Mouthwash (like Superdrug's own brand) or Corsodyl mouthwash (Similar to Superdrug's own brand but more expencive).
Rob 4 June 15
Hello from Uk ☺ I have been told by my dentist to use sensodyne and I have persevered but have a mouth full of ulcers now I believe you call them canker sores in USA . Yesterday I went back to my previous Corsodyl toothpaste and my mouth already feels eased a little. Sodium Lauryl Sulphate seems to cause the trouble. Now of course my teeth will start hurting again when I eat ice cream or hot coffee! Will need to go see dentist hygienist to fix this if they can.

For the last 7 days my mouth has been on fire, cannot eat, drink, talk and struggle to sleep with the pain. I had started to use Colgate Advanced White and followed the recent dental advice not to rinse after brushing. I am binning this horrible toothpaste. Stay clear of it.
When i went to the dentist and doctors they did ask if i had changed my toothpaste!

Dividend investing is rlelay powerful investment vehicle, mainly in downturn markets like we are seeing these days. Most of the companies you are mentioning on your web are dragged down with the market for no reason (by panic only), so you can buy them cheap and increase your dividend yield on cost. And Colgate is one of those good quality companies and people will use their product no matter what. I agree on this and I invest into dividend stock in my own portfolio too. Happy Investing!

may look small, but considering ddiviend growth ratio and its security (the company was paying it since 1895 and increasing it for 48 years!!! every year the ddiviend raised by 2.5%! in ten years this ddiviend on your investment will actually be 2.5% plus capital growth... and with ddiviend reinvesting - it is still great deal. Where else you can get better "interest"?

Umm, when you used the lemon recipe did you boil the water with the shirt in it, then let it soak until the water teunrd cool, then set it out in the sun wet? I never heard about using salt with the lemons, hmmm. Anyway, I never would have thought of the toothpaste solution! Brilliant!

I knew I recognised these from the tease igmeas. It's been decades since I've seen any but the Flintstones ones, though. I still have all those, the Barney & Betty same as seen here. There was also a random policeman and fireman in the Flintstones set. I was thinking of posting a shot online to link to, but figured it probably wouldn't get looked at.Always makes me sad to think how many HB toys we had as kids that got lost over time. Green-haired rubber Barney, the Kellogs vinyl face stuffed Huck, Yogi & Boo Boo. Kids don't always think about their toys gaining collector's value one day.

Jessica felt that giving back to her cuommnity is something that she needs to start doing more of. She donated to the Washinton Center, a school for severely mentally and physically disabled children from low income families. Teachers routinely buy a toothbrush for each child in the classroom to keep and this can really add up. To read more about how her act of kindness, click here.

Do you have any more thoughts on bidgring the gap between caricatures and cartoons? A while back you were working up to that topic, and I was wondering if you were still making progress. I've been re-reading your old blog posts on caricatures for this big commission I'm working on. Thank you for those, by the way!

Oh my god, Christmas has come early. These are fantastic. That face boglnes to Betty? I laughed so hard I think I sprained something. These are absolutely the best things ever. I wish toys that splendiferous were easier to find now. At least, without the worries of lead paint and paying jacked-up bootleg prices.

I just wanted to comment about Colgate Sensitive, which I used instead of my normal Sensodyne recently. I switched to Sensodyne many years ago, not because I have sensitive teeth, but because I was getting mouth ulcers, mainly under my tongue, very painful as you all know, and had eliminated many things till I realised it could be the sodium lauryl sulphate commonly used. When I used the Colgate (as my husband uses that satisfactorily and my usual was empty) I was not that surprised to have many many ulcers appear quickly. I wrote to Colgate to give them this information, thinking they actually might be interested in developing a toothpaste that does not contain this nasty chemical (or whatever chemical it is that we are all unable to tolerate) and they dissed the issue as being "isolated"! I have referred them back to this site for a read about what's going on in the real world! I see it as an opportunity for them to make a kinder toothpaste for those of us who do not have sensitive teeth per se, but can't tolerate the ingredients in Colgate and Colgate Sensitive, let alone Total and Whitener which even give my husband ulcers! We'll see if they are interested! Otherwise it's Sensodyne for me!

Most major brands of toothpaste have switched to the cheapest type of fluoride available. There are four types and the most common when first added to Crest toothpaste in the 50's was stannous fluoride. The cheaper ones they switched to sometime in 2014. Never mind the "natural" monikers like Tom's of Maine (owned by a large corporate conglomerate) or Trader Joes, or even some you would find in Whole Foods. Check the label!!! For years I used Colgate and then Aquafresh Whitening for around 15 years. December 2014 I started getting canker sores and then ulcers. So did another member of my family. We had just purchased and opened a new tube of Aquafresh. When I compared the label I saw that the fluoride had changed. I called them and their customer service told me that they'd gotten lots of calls and some people just won't be able to tolerate the new fluoride. They also told me it was now added to their entire product line. I had an old tube of Colgate from a dentist visit and used it no problem. When I purchased a new tube of Colgate...ulcers...and yes the fluoride had changed from the small tube given to me by the dentist. Did some research on fluoride and learned that it's a by-product of manufacturing and industry just didn't know what to do with it until some smart guy in the 50's figured out that where fluoride occurs naturally in the ground and groundwater, those communities had lower cavities. They also had a brownish tinge on their teeth and kids sometimes were born with white spots on their teeth. So the U.S. government it turns out, KNEW that fluoride is a carcinogen with many other nasty side-effects but considered it an "acceptable risk" to add to toothpaste starting in the '50's because it would prevent tooth decay. When people tell you that it's perfectly safe...think about it. If you are already getting fluoridation in your water, do you really need it in your toothpaste as well? So I tried several "natural" brands with NO fluoride and I really like Jason Powersmile because it's like Aquafresh in taste and texture. I also have tried Kiss My Face and Desert Essences. They are good and work but the Jason had for me the most pleasant taste. Oh and if you get the mouth ulcers really bad like we did you will end up at a dermatologist. Even they aren't aware of the toothpaste debacle. Also my dentist told me that many of his patients are allergic to the ingredient in Sensodyne. For me it causes sloughing off layers of skin all day...feels like shedding. the dentist said you can sometimes use other brands and they will not have such an extreme effect. But I am happy now with the Jason Brand and no ill effects.

As mentioned previously, stay away from toothpastes with SLS, almost all big brand name toothpastes contain this ingredient. I also avoid glycerine as it speeds up the demineralization of tooth enamel. I've gone over the past 10 years from Arm & Hammer baking soda toothpaste (thought I was choosing a great option) to Tom's of Maine, to Tom's with no SLS, then when they got bought by Colgate I went to Dessert Essence, eventually I landed on Uncle Harry's. I live in Canada but have a mailing box in the US so I ship to that one and order usually three or four jars of Spearmint and/or Peppermint at a time. These days the only time I get cankers is after a bender week-end with too much liquor and/or spicy/bbq foods, keeping stomach acid under control is a good way to prevent this and usually when I have Glutagenics in the fridge these flareups stay under control too.

Here are the ingredients in the Uncle Harry's Spearmint toothpaste - Bentonite clay, calcium carbonate, colloidal silver water, sea salt, ionic minerals, mustard seed, essential oils of spearmint, peppermint, eucalyptus, clove, wintergreen, and oregano. Gluten free, glycerin free, and vegan.

Glutagenics can be found on Amazon.

I have been getting canker sores all the time for the last few years. I have tried everything. I even tried Thera Breath toothpaste which dosn't have any sls in it. I told my Dr. about them so she put me on some medicine. That didn't help. My niece was constantly getting them also and her dentist told her to stop using toothpaste altogether. I tried that and I haven't had a canker sore since I stopped using all toothpaste. So if anyone else is out there that still gets canker sores no matter what you do try going toothpaste free and see if that works. Hope this helps.

Been suffering from mouth ulcers on and off for the last five or so years. they drive me nuts.. glad i found this site . I have an issue with aspertame giving me ulcers (canker sores) so never thought about my toothpaste till today.. Aspartame is the sweetener in toothpaste and this along with the SLS i guess is causing me greif.
. no more Colgate for me.. BTW i tried OralB a few weeks ago as it was on sale.. wow that stuff gave me a bad sores in my mouth..
I have used Thursday plantations Tea Tree oil Toothpaste a while ago, and now i think of it i had no ulcers (canker sores). i'm going back to the Natural stuff with no added crap..

Has anyone found that Arm & Hammer sensitive pro gives theme ulcers? I've getting sick of the stupid things, and when I get them they are not only huge but also in places where they are easily caught/irritated. I get married next weekend and don't want to be garbling my vows because of a painful ulcer :(

BEWARE OF WHITENING TOOTPASTES!! I Had terrible pain in my mouth that kept me up all night. I thought I had a toothache so I went to the dentist because I couldn't see anything wrong in my mouth. She took one look and said, have you been using a toothpaste with whitening/bleaching in it, and I said yes, I just recently bought Colgate Optic Whitening Tootpaste. I thought I would try because I drink coffee daily. Well my Dentist proceeded to tell me how bad these whitening toothpastes are for your gums and then took pictures to show me the clusters of canker sores on top of canker sores on my gums near my wisdom teeth but also found them on the roof of my mouth and under my tongue. My dentist told me not to use any whitening toothpaste or the whitening strips because they hurt your gums. I was in so much pain for 3-4 weeks gargling with salt water trying to get rid of all the cancer sores. I wish I would I heard about this before being permanently scarred from the canker sores caused by using Colgate Optic toothpaste. I have to go back to dentist follow up apptmt. I Wish I would have read about this beforehand and never used Whitening products.

I have been using Colgate Sensitive with Sensifoam for(whitening) for three weeks and have developed sores at each side of my mouth. Very painful. Now read your article and think this is what the problem is. Normally use Sensodyme, but Colgate was cheaper from The Pound Shop. Going back to Sensodyme as suffering.

Omg I am glad I found this site. I recently developed severe dry, flakey lips and tried so many different medical chopsticks and ointments. Finally I found Polysporen lip repair which seemed to somewhat help. But I still have red peeling sores on and around my bottom lip. I read on another site that it can be a reaction to certain ingredients in toothpaste. For the last couple years I have been using Sesodyne Repair and protect and I love it, but because it is pretty expensive and I noticed about a month ago that Colgate has a similar toothpaste so I bought it. Around that time is when I started develop extremely dry lips and red sores. I have switched back to the Sesodyne and my lips are no longer dry. It has only been a couple days back on Sesodyne so I am still waiting for the sores to heal. Hope I figured out the cause.

Have used Arm & Hammer on and off for a few years and have noticed every time I use it I get blood blisters in the mouth. Don't use their toothpaste any more. Also, have had stomach ulcers on and off for a while and am now wondering if these may have anything to do with toothpaste. If they can cause ulcers in the mouth why not in the stomach. Will try using some SLS and Fluoride free toothpaste and see if it helps

After reading here that SLS chemical can be a cause of mouther ulcer. I stopped using toothpaste, as i also earlier noticed that even having regular brush still my tooth are yellowish. I also noticed regular plaque formation with an hour of brushing. And after stop using colgate, i got complete relive with in a week & it looks like that chemicals like SLS in personal hygenic producta are major cause of mouth ulcer & other skin problems in my case. What i noticed in my case that after these chemical get inside our body, our immune system starts fighting them & in reaction you get a number of auto-immune diseases.

Good luck!

I used to get nasty aphthous ulcers which would last for a couple of weeks. Moved over to a new toothpaste by Colgate, Sensitive Pro-relief which seems to have stopped my ulcers forming. Any I get are gone by the next day.
The toothpaste contains a compound called arginine which has been shown to change oral bacteria from an acid producing variety to a more alkaline form in clinical trials.
This change in oral bacteria may have helped me. Considering the price of the toothpaste, I would suggest giving it a go if you also suffer from serious long duration mouth ulcers
